Not a hope, thankfully our gym has not the facility for me to make an arse of myself doing that :) - I am struggling with your bog standard leg raise making sure I don't swing the old legs.

Hmmm I'm torn..I wanna try..but I don't want to know I can't do it (I hate not being able to do things!) and I'm currently basking in the 'not knowing-ness'. Tis bad enough being stuck on negative pull ups:o Oh hang on, is there such a thing as negative leg raises?!

haha - yeah i wouldn't mind trying it - would want a lot of soft cushions on the floor though for when I lose control and fall on my head!

haha I meant I wanna try the bog standard one, not a hope of my toes going anywhere near my fingers!!!!:p

You should try it though, be a good progression! (easy for me to say haha)

ah, well in that case you should go ahead - you would be able to do them no problem. I am just a terrible woose and hate anything ab related especially after deadlifting. Incidentally the only equipment I can do this on at my gym is like this:

    http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-hanging-leg-raises-properly-195126/

and not bar hanging down by your arms, which looks even harder and 'nuff respect to anyone that uses that. I find my grip/arms funnily enough gives me more discomfort than my abs during this, because of the equipment I think and because i have just been deadlifting.

HAHA -just played that vid I linked to and it has "gay fitness community" written all over it. Maybe I should hook my google skills up with Sangre's buddy who was talking to him at the gym :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,660 ✭✭✭G86

Cheers, haven't seen one of those in my gym, there's just the bars to do them on so like you wouldn't be able to lean back against anything.

haha yeah interesting choice of link :pac:

    C2W3D3- Bench

    1 x 5 32.5kg
    1 x 5 40kg
    1 x 5 47.5kg <-- increased by 2.5kg warm up and BBB sets.

    Work

    1 x 5 57.5kg
    1 x 3 62.5kg
    1 x 9 70kg

    BBB
    5 x 10 47.5kg - this was better - hard but definitely doable.

    Dumbbell Rows
    5 x 10 27.5kg
Was actually going to raise this to 30kg but held off because i raised my BBB - in hindsight I should have as it was much easier this week than last (maybe because I hadn't been doing all those singles!). Squat tomorrow - let's hope I make it out of the gym :)

    C2W3D4 - Squat

warm ups were totally destroyed as someone was using the squat rack so had to do it with the smyths machine - wtf! how can you squat properly with that...nearly broke my leg...first and last time using the fecker..

    Work

    1 x 5 65kg
    1 x 3 72.5kg
    1 x 8 82.5kg

    BBB
    5 x 10 52.5kg

I mentioned I was a bit worried about this after being out so long, but it was bad, just not as bad as expected. However, my legs stopped working and I could barely get to the water machine and so I did no additional exercises. Half an hour later when I finally made it up the stairs to have a shower the doms started...pretty early I thought. Managed to crawl into work and am not looking forward to having to get out of my chair...or tomorrow morning...going to be doms and chocolate all weekend for me ..

Another deadlift day, another day feeling like crap...at least I know the reason this time. Football killed me last night, woke up with all manner of muscles screaming in pain at having to move from stiff to active. Neck (more my left trap I guess) in bits again, barely able for moving my head. Wasn't going to go but thought I would at least try and get some stretching done to loosen up.

    C3W2D2- Deadlift

Did about 3 times as much stretching as normal and did some light running to really shake out the body.

    1 x 5 45
    1 x 5 55
    1 x 5 65

    Work

    1 x 3 77.5kg
    1 x 3 87.5kg
1 x 7 97.5kg -- literally lost my grip on last rep was holding on by tips of my fingers on my left hand, same side as my neck is sore.

That was it, the extra stretching and running kind of ate anytime I had left but I had nothing more to give to be honest, I was beat. The stretching did help though, as did the power (well more power than mine at home) shower afterwards. Neck is still sore but not as bad. Need to do some more stretching tonight.

So question for you out there, what kind of post stretching do you do, specifically on cardio intensive work outs like footie - I never stretched after or before anything up until i hit 35 and even now it is has all been strictly pre workout. Really need to start going the extra to make sure I am in good shape for the next work out - any foam rolling tips for the neck area?

Going to miss deload week next week as i have to go away for work for a week and if i miss deload then the week i am away will coincide perfectly when i am away (and hopefully not stranded!)

    1 x 5 20kg
    1 x 5 22.5kg
    1 x 5 27.5kg

    Work

    1 x 5 35kg
    1 x 3 40kg
1 x 9 42.5kg - Better than last week! Think it is a PB too. Need to keep note of these things!

    BBB
    5 x 10 27.5kg

    Chins & Dips
Decided to go 3 sets of weighted chins and dips. Found it really hard to get my feet around the 6kg dumbbell, I guess it will get easier the more i do it and if i move up weights as the bell end (ahem) gets bigger and my feet can wrap it better.

3 x 5 chins + 6kg - dropped the dumbbell on the last one of 1st set and had to stop after 3 on both of the other sets and then restart to finish

3 x 5 dips + 6kg - not as bad as the chins but man so much harder than i thought it would be.

    C3W3D4- Squat

Missed Bench due to house signing issues - now that contracts are done I imagine over the next 2 months I am going to struggle to keep my program every week but I shall endeavour to try!

    Warm Up

    5 x 47.5kg
    5 x 55kg

    Work

    5 x 67.5kg
    3 x 77.5kg
6 x 87.5kg (pretty poor i think - got a copy of me on the phone and i think i went camera shy and woosed out :D still at least the form looked decent.)

Nothing else, had to get back to work, coz on top of house I am mad busy for at least the next 6 weeks :|

Well that was a pain in the arse 3 weeks, 1 week sick, 1 week away and last week moving house which has still not completed...don't get me started...

anyhoo, had enough of the inactivity and forced myself to the gym this morning, which is tough enough at my best of times.

Back to C4W1D1, which i may repeat next week again as it was tough enough..

    5 x 100kg

0 x 140kg -- had the fecker up at my hips nearly, grip started to go on one hand so had to lower it incase i dropped it, just before i could get my knees locked, but was surprised that it came up so easily, once i got it moving!
    0 x 140kg -- this time I couldn't get it moving :)

    6mins HIIT..

not a long session but was happy that the body was up for deadlifts first thing in the morning...cos the mind definitely didn't think it was!

Stopped there, no one for spotting and i didn't feel confident enough..so short of 90kg my pb but again ok.. both are higher than the original figures i put into 5/3/1 so we will see how it goes.

new job starting, promotion at the end of the month so time will be tight, add into that a new baby next month too and i am really going to be juggling my time to get to the gym...thankfully 5/3/1 can be flexible...let's hope i am too !

Another double up today as I missed yesterday session. Good stuff though, quite like the press and deads together.

    Press

    5 x 20kg
    5 x 25kg
    5 x 27.5kg
    5 x 32.5kg
    5 x 37.5kg
11 x 42.5kg PB for reps - quite chuffed at that one.

    Deadlift
    5 x 40kg
    5 x 65kg
    5 x 77.5kg
    3 x 90kg
    3 x 102.5kg
7 x 110kg (some auld fella started yapping to me when i was loading the bar and I never noticed I was 5kg under my target weight till after the lifts...still 1 rep more than last week).

    C1W2D3
    Bench

    5 x 30kg
    5 x 37.5kg
    5 x 47.5kg

    3 x 55kg
    3 x 60kg
    10 x 70kg -- pretty sure a pb for reps

    BBB
    5 x 10 x 50kg

Went down to do some dips afterwards...lack of BBB was evident tho and I could barely get one so I decided a shower would be the best course of action!

Head not with it today, surprised i was able to get the weights correct on the bar..

    5 x 30kg
    5 x 37.5kg
    5 x 45kg
    5 x 57.5kg

    BBB

    C1W3D2 - Deadlift

Knee still niggling me a little so decided to not do the BBB, its the bending down as opposed to the straightening of the leg that nips a bit, getting better and next week is deload week so it should be grand after that.

    anyhoo

    5 x 50kg
5 x 60kg (supposed to have been 65 but was daydreaming)
    5 x 77.5kg

    5 x 95kg
    3 x 110kg
    5 x 122.5kg

as i was not doing BBB I thought I would do a single or two

1 x 145kg PB form was ok, it had been pretty poor all day but better on the heavier weights..felt strong on this so tried 150

0 x 150kg got it off the ground by about a cm and was stuck there..still getting nearer that 2 x BW bit by bit

as i was trying to lay off the knee didn't really know what to do with myself so just finished up with some dips

    1 x 10
    1 x 8
    1 x 5

    5 x 25kg
    5 x 27.5kg

    5 x 35kg
    3 x 40kg
6 x 45kg pb for reps, by 1 had another one in me but let it slip down my chest and I couldn't get it back up oooeerrr...

    BBB
    5 x 10 x 27.5kg - tuff tuff tuff

    Pull ups x 2

start new job next week...thankfully deload week...then the new baby is due about 10 days after that so fitting in cycle 2 is going to be interesting.

wow has it really been July since I last updated :O

In the meantime got promoted, had a baby and have been struggling big time to get to the gym. Managed a couple of times...but only to stop me rusting up.

New schedule, 3 times a week only unfortunately but in the morning before I start the day or wake up I intend on hitting the gym...nice and quiet in there...all equipment is mine...unfortunately as I proved this morning I need to get the body working again...

Decided to pick up where I left off kind of - redoing cycle 2 - had no notes of the lifts I was supposed to make this morning though, but I knew the top figure so just kind of blasted it out.

    Cycle 2 - W1 D1

So Day 1 is going to consist of press and deads as I try and fit in to a 3 day cycle.

    Press (1RM 52.5kg)
    5 x 20kg
    5 x 25kg
    5 x 30kg
    5 x 35kg
    5 x 37.5kg
    8 x 42.5kg

By no means my best - and i think I have hurt an old neck pain that I had before due to limited warm up - damn!

Deadlift (1RM 150kg -- did this on my time off there when messing in the gym)
    5 x 70kg
    5 x 90kg
    5 x 100kg
    6 x 112kg

Messed up my warm up and got confused and tbh was struggling big time...I put it down to the fact that it is morning and my body is still sleeping - need to get it used to the change.

Is this my last 5/3/1 day? Been pondering it for a while now...everyone seems to think it sucks and although I have noticed gains I just don't feel as strong as I did with starting strength and every day squatting...might look into a new program to fit my limited time.

    Anyhoo

Much discouraged with the whole 5/3/1 thing today so
    Bench
    5 x 30
    5 x 35
    5 x 40
    5 x 45
    5 x 55
    11 x 65 --> this is what i mean - 65 felt so fecking heavy...

    incline bench
    never done this before
    some small numbers

    chins

    dumbbell curls..

kind of aimless in there this morning...tbh

missed the gym this morning so got along to a buddies gym to try it out at lunchtime (nearer to where i work).

lots of good old fashioned equipment and not a smyths machine in sight. I went at my squats for the first time in a long time, once I worked out how the squat cage worked ;) and once my intimidation of being in a room full of weights and strong looking feckers once overcome.

    2 x 5 x 20kg
    5 x 40kg
    5 x 50kg
    5 x 60kg
    5 x 62.5kg
    5 x 72.5kg
    6 x 82.5kg

legs were ok, form was too, sun was shining right on me which i don't like so -1 for the gym, but hey it has a lot of +'s so...

today was really about just squatting and checking the place out...if i can move (need to cancel other membership first) and get longer in there due to the shorter journey i will be happy..
