Selling a car after importing it from the UK

    I moved to the UK in December 2008 and brought my (Irish reg) car with me. As is the law, I registered the car and changed to UK plates in April '09.

    Things didn't work out for me in the UK and I came back to Ireland in November '09. I now need to change my car back to Irish plates so I can drive it here as the UK road tax has recently expired.

    I just checked the VRT webpage and it says "NOTE: If you are moving to Ireland and are among those exempt from paying VRT you cannot sell your vehicle for more than 12 months after the vehicle is registered."

    I had planned on selling my car as I don't really have the need for it now.
    Is there any sort of flexibility/dispensation available to me, considering this car was Irish regged and it wasn't *bought* in the UK?

    You can reregister the car here FOC and sell it whenever you want, as VRT has already been paid on it.

    Ah, yes, you're right! Forgot to mention that I got the car 2 years ago when my sister gave it to me (she lives in the North), so I have already paid VRT on it. Phew!
