We got our pointer from the dog's home a few months ago, he's about a year old now, and although he's generally very affectionate and well behaved, he has issues with other dogs that we can't seem to sort out! First of all when he's in the house he's excellent except for when other dogs walk past the window (a very regular occurence!) and then he goes mad, barking really loudly and running round. We've tried everything we can think of to get him to stop but nothing seems to work, even when the curtains are closed at night he seems to know when theres other dogs outside!
The other issue is when we meet other dogs out walking, exact same problem. He starts barking and pulling at the lead trying to get over to them. We don't know if he's be aggressive or just wants to play, watching him in the dogs home he seemed well socialised but we obviously don't want to take him off the lead in case he does maul somebody else's dog!
Just wondering if anyone had any advice with this? We haven't had him neutered as myself and my husband are still arguing about whether we should or not, but do you think this would make a difference or is this behaviour something that's just in his nature and we have to put up with it? He's been excellent in every other aspect of this training but this is the one thing we can't sort out! Thanks

    You've a few options,
One is neutering, not always a solution to seemed aggression /behavioural issues, but it can be helpful to do anyway, if there's female in heat he'll go above and beyond to get to her.
Another is trying to train him yourself in these situations, getting him to learn to listen to your commands etc.
Lastly, which might be more helpful as it would give you good tips etc, would be to contact a trainer, and see if they can assist. Not to send the dog away, but to get a trainer to work with you/your husband and your dog, so ye all learn. You guys learn how to train and the dog learns to listen&learn from you guys.
