Having some trouble with the car (1999 model). Its difficult to start (as in i have to turn the key 2-3 times to start it. There seems to be no power in first and second gear sometimes and the car can take a while to get going for whatever reason. It also seems to be more difficult to start the car when the engine is hot.

    Thanks for any replies

Hard to say without listening to it.
    How old is battery?
    How old are spark plugs?
Does it sound like the starter won't fire up the engine?

You could try cleaning the throttle body, changing plugs and air filter. These are easy and cheap DIY things and needs to be done occasionally anyway.
Maybe have a local mechanic listen to it if that doesn't help.

Could be ignition related. As above, check out coil packs, spark plugs and primary trigger, think its at the crankshaft pulley. Your mechanic will know what to do.

Those cars do suffer from MAF problems so check that anyway.

If you disconnect the MAF and the car runs properly then that's your problem!
