Donegal Town hanging tight to Christmas lights

The Donegal Town Community Chamber has come up with a novel way of beating the January blues.
That festive feeling will be lingering that little longer in the town after it was decided to leave some of the Christmas lights on trees around the Diamond.
Businessess are hopeful that the illuminations may attract shoppers to the town.
Ernan McGettigan from the Community Chamber says it’s all about letting people know Donegal Town is open for business.

I don't know but I was driving through a town with it's Christmas lights still up I would think .... Jaysus this town must be dead ... Or .... They couldn't afford to have them taken down. I'm sorry but the logic in the story just doesn't add up for me.

Maybe after the musical festival this year they could leave the stage up for a month.

So are the lights on all the time, or just evenings, or weekends?

    How do they look?

I think that in another couple of weeks people might get tired of looking at them... having said that, lights are always an attractive feature, so long as they get rid of the manger, wreaths, crosses, stars, santas etc etc and just leave up the mini lights, then it would make sense. They do this in alot of places already

manger and tree down when the ice melted just left the blue lights and white lights on some of the trees in the diamond

What percentage of people passing through the diamond will think
    a. Why are the Christmas lights still up ?
    b. Oh those lights look lovely. I feel so much happier for seeing them.

I was standing at the doorway of the Abbey hotel last night, and remembered this thread, I see the wisdom now in taking them down... its half hearted looking... theres better ways to brighten up the town

Who or what pays for the electricity usage on these? I'd assume it's the chamber?
