Hey all, Just wondering if there was anyplace where I could learn everyday conversational German in Cork. Im in college from 10 untill 7 every day so it would have to be in the evenings.

I have an almost non existent level of german at the moment, just a basic vocabulary and verbs. Take in mind im also a student so the cheaper the better.

    Any recommendations would be great.

I'd be very interested in this too if there was somewhere to go!

You could try the North Mon Language centre, they have two places, one in the North Mon itself and the other by the GPO in the City. You get headfones and a mic so you can record yourself and play it back. I'm not sure about prices, I think the more people in the class the cheaper it is.

Already got a start on german with the rosetta stone program. Although its helping me pick up the basics i think the best way to learn something is to get stuck in and doing it. You can only learn so much through the books!

I tried all those books and tapes to learn German. Even did a night-course one night a week in the Goethe Institute in Dublin. No joy.

But when I had to work in France I needed to learn pronto (tres vite) and was recommended these CD's by "Michel Thomas" to learn French in a week. No notes, no pens, no books just listen to the ten CD's and you will be amazed. I already had a bit of French from school but I tried the same Michel's Spanish CD's for work as well and I just as impressed.

40 euro from amazon at the moment for German ...

Try the Cork page of GumTree. You'll see a language swap page and it does what it says. People swap conversational German for English etc. Used this myself and you eventually get someone to work with and its free :) (as in free to post an ad, plus language swap is free)

If you search ICC Cork in facebook you will find that they do language swap meetings sometimes around the city

I only now spotted this thread. I've been giving German language courses in the Carrigaline Community College for a while now. The new term should start in September so I would recommend to check for their programs when they're out.

Alternatively I am also available for private lessons. :D

    All the best

Great choice. Both Aachen and Cologne are fabulous cities to visit and are great locations to explore both Germany further and go and visit Belgium and the Netherlands (or even France/Luxembourg) further if you have the time.
