Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Renault Spontaneously Combusts

My wife was telling me that a woman was dropping her kids off at our daughters creche the other day and whilst in there her Renault went on fire. Was supposedly some type of electrical issue and when she came back out the interior was on fire and before long whole car went up. It was a diesel model so I understand the tank would not explode as a petrol might but she said there was a clear amount of damage to the fence etc where her car had been parked so must have been a substantial fire.

The most shocking thing about this was that I asked her what type of car it was and at the same time as she did, I said "Renault" too!

I remembered listening to a Gerry Ryan show on this some years back and all was about Renault's going on fire when turned off and parked. The people calling in all had obvious concerns as regards kids in the car etc.

Luckily the lady at the creche had taken her second child with her - think of the consequence if she took a chance and left the child there for a minute whilst she ran in!!

Has anyone else heard stories such as this - and more so, were they Renault related?

    Paddy

Wow, this could be a thread from any decade, replacing Renault with Fiat/Skoda/Lada, take your pick.

Once had a MKI Laguna burn itself to death on the N11 (and good riddance too). Someone stopped next to our driver in traffic to warn him that his car was on fire and he'd be better off pulling in to the hard shoulder and getting out of the car.

Happened about 2 weeks before a recall was issued for the power steering pump that was leaking on to the exhaust. Couldn't be proved that was the issue as it was so distroyed, so it was an insurance job.

LOL..........I believe my other car also has this issue.......

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Volvos are or at least were very good at self combusting as well, then again many of their smaller models used Renault engines and other bits and pieces.

There was a recall last year for early 2007 S40 / V50 1.6D models. Can't remember the exact issue, but there was a significant risk of fire.
