380 euro for a crown is a joke. What the hell kind of crown will that be if the dentist is to make any money. Even from NI labs a decent crown will cost 200 euro. Corners will have to be cut. 30 minutes for a crown prep is also very short.

A half hour for a crown prep seems incredibly short if that includes the moulds pairing down of the tooth etc. I am not a dentist but I had a crown done recently and the prep was an hour and a half and I know that my dentist had me pencilled in for 2 hours.

I have no vested interest in supporting dentists but I would expect a few hundred alone in labour given that he spent about 3 hours with me in total.

Hi I need a crown done and have gotten a quote from my regular dentists clinic of 900 euro. I rang around and he seems to be the dearest with one place only 500. Is there different types of crown? Could mine be using better quality materials? I have no problem going to another dentist as the girl I usually go to has left the practice so I will be seeing someone new anyway. Dont want a botch job but don't want to be ripped off either.

There are huge differences in the amount of time spent, attention to detail and quality of laboratory work used by different dentists for crown and bridge work. A 500 euro crown is certainly not going to be the best crown. There are several similar threads on the front page of the DI forum at the moment use the search function. Merged these threads.

I just started on a crown for my front tooth today on the advice of a certain moderator here. I was going to go overseas but opted for local even though the cost is quite a lot more. I'm more than impressed with the quality of care I've shown and the full and frank explanation of the process and where we will be going as time goes on. It's a process that will take time from the dentist and the tech making the crown to get right. Going abroad I can see how dentists are under serious time and financial pressure and that's when mistakes can happen. I'll need a return visit for a scale and polish and also to start teeth whitening before I get the permanent crown fitted. This would have meant a lot of taping and froing if I was over seas. My crown cost 975, admittedly not the cheapest in my area, the dentist said that himself, but I will be assured of a very high standard finish when we're done and the relevant after care and support should anything go wrong. My total treatments are coming to around 1400 after the crown fillings clean and whitening but it's money well spent and piece of mind that I'll get what I pay for. :)

Read the thread, it depends on:
    The tooth
    The number of canals
The restpratiove status of the tooth.
    Who does it.
How good fitting the crown is.
How good looking the crown is.
Other work such as cleanings, fillings and bleaching that are often forgotten about.

5k seems a lot if that was for no more than one root canal and one crown
