Remap 2.0HDI Diesel - good/bad idea??

    Hi All,

I’m thinking about getting my 2006 Peugeot 407 2.0 HDI remapped! I specifically want to improve the fuel efficiency of the car and I’m not really interested that much in improving performance (as long as there isn’t a big loss in performance). Has anyone any experience of remapping a diesel engine? Is it a good idea? What sort of improvement in economy is typically achievable and it is worth the cost (around 300 Euro). Can anyone recommend a good remapping company? Any advice or experience (good or bad) would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I had a 1.9TDi Audi A4 remapped and drove a non-remapped A4 of the same year and engine a few times after this.

The MPG is not noticable too much but the power achieved through the lower gears is certainly noticable.

It is definately worth the money however €300 is a question mark. It is simply changing values in the ECU, should it truly cost so much?

I cannot reccomend a remapping company because the one that remapped the Audi 4 years ago is out of business.

Yea 300 euro seems like a lot of money for what I’ve told takes between 30-60 minutes! I've spoken to a few different companies now and I’ve been quoted percentage increases in fuel efficiency of between 5% - 25%, which is a large range!!

How much should this cost ?

I'll never quite understand why the car companies don't tune the engines for better fuel efficiency if it does affect performance.

    It doesn't make any sense.
