Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Some camerabox reviews

Even factoring in that some reviews are probably affiliated with camerabox and their competitors there seems to be a lot of luck involved, good and bad. Too risky for my liking.

Totally agree, I'll sign off this thread with this ditty, if you can afford to lose it then buy online, IF however you are buying an expensive item like the Canon 7D body at 1,400 to 2,000 euro then you really need to consider the back-up from the retailer if and when it goes wrong.
You are buying it and you must be sure who you want to buy it from. We can only offer our experiences.
If you are risk averse buy if from a local retailer with a proven track record, if you are a risk taker and you want a "bargain" buy online.
However if you reaserch the complaints for camerbox they do tend to relate to SLR and SLR lens that are not in huge demand or stock compared to compact digital cameras! Happy snapping!

You asked a question in your post. One which had a pretty obvious answer.
Conns cameras charge a price for camera equipment that the market is willing to pay. They are a business, they are there to make money. They are not forcing you to buy anything from them.

They are actually forcing me not to buy from them

I dont actually think its that obvious, but this thread is discussing the merits of a camera price. I am willing to pay to pay enough for Conns to make a profit and keep their staff employed but I and quite a few other on this forum are sick of bing ripped off. Its no more than that.

RB. I am reasonably successful and happy with the living I make and I am intelligent enough to know when I am am being treated fairly.
There are months when I make money and months when I dont make as much. I have share in small business and with the downturn we had to bypass a large importer to keep things moving. (I have minority Stake)
Maybe I could be a little bolder in this as its not my main income but if small fry can do it so can camera shops. We simply listened to our customers and acted. Oh and within the next 12 months I will make small investment in 2 small start up business'
I have also stated on many occasions I would prefer to shop in Dublin and buy only Irish products when possible but sometimes one has to be realistic and go elsewhere when a few hundred Euro can be saved.

That's you, thats not the people who run Conns. Why settle for a reasonable profit when you can make more money.

I'm the same. In the past few years I've bought my camera equipment from either B&H in the US or Calumet in Belfast. Anything else I buy from Gunns, like film and developing chems and some other bits. Last year I bought a 50mm 1.4 from Gunns. Lucky for me that I bought from them as the lens is faulty and returning it to Gunns, having lost my receipt, was really easy. John Gunn was so helpful. I'd struggle to get the same level of service from any store online.
