    Hi all,

I was recently made redundant but have been considering moving to OZ for sometime now. I'm just wondering what people's experiences have been looking for IT work in OZ and if they have any recommendations of locations where I would have a good chance of finding employment.

Secondly would anyone have any idea if there are any projects in Oz similar to The Digital Hub in Dublin. I would be grateful if you could pass on details.

    Thanks :)

define IT ... it is a very broad definition.

I am a Java developer with a few years exp, there seems to be a lot more development work out there now than a year ago.

I've even started getting calls from agencies again!

As Hussey says, IT is very broad ranging. I worked in a number of good development roles on my WHV before I got sponsored by my current employer. It may just be that your area of work isn't much in demand at the moment or that you don't have a lot of experience under your belt yet.

depending on where you go there will be big differences in available jobs.

Lets assume you're coming here temporarily, < 2 yrs.
So you'll be on a WHV, and as such can only work for any one employer for a max of 6 months anyways. Some people are snobbish on helpdesk jobs, don't be. They're often easier to get and short-lived if needs be. And having ANY job to start with in australia is a great gateway to other better jobs. IMHO they love to see you've worked for and can be recommended by an aussie employer.

True dat, I found the first one difficult to get, then once theyd seen Id worked at a large corporate in Oz it was handy to pick up other contracts from then on.

    Thanks everyone for replying :)

My last role was in research & development specializing in HCI and ICT accessibility issues. I would preferably like to stay in that type of field.
However I also have some training experience, so would be looking at those type of roles as well.

I'll take on board everything that has been suggested.
