im looking to buy travel accessories and wonder whether it is better to purchase them online and pay shipping or to purchase here in ireland and avoid shipping costs.

ive looked at the sites below and the greatoutdoors is pricey. does anyone know if you have to pay shipping on each item with amazon or just one shipping charge

    www.amazon.co.uk
    Magellan's Travel Supplies
    Greatoutdoors

this is another boards thread on accessories from 2008 if anyones interested

Other than a backpack what travel assessories do people bring with them traveling that they can't pick up for a fraction of the cost in the countries they visit? And a lot of hostels are full of crap people bought thinking they needed but ended up dumping because they never had a need for them.

then youve got to go looking for them when you get there. some things are good to have with you like a sleep sack, safepouch, travel towel etc

Exactly. Outside Europe, Austrailia and America, for example, only tourists buy suncream, so it's very expensive. Best to buy it before you leave!

got a silk sleeping bag liner on ebay dead cheap before i left. used it loads in SE asia guesthouses and dodgy hostels.
bath plug - was useful for the boyf shaving and stuff.
if you are heading for a hot climate no point lugging round a travel towel when you can use a big cheap sarong/beach wrap thing to do the same job. lighter and folds very small.
    get cheap plug adaptor.
bought water purification tablets, never used them once.
it depends where you are going i guess and if you intend to camp in the wilderness or whatever
