    Ya I'd say your best bet would be to either contact a solicitor or...pay a visit to your local motor court and have a seat and listen for a bit see if anything similar comes up and how they fair, generally if you want to bring it to court to fight your case...in this case that the guard has taken the wrong information, you are more then entitled to do so and generally worst comes to worse you'll probably just end up with your original penelty points and fine. The whole doubling of the fine would be more so aimed at those ignoring the summons, if you show up on the day to fight your case and have a genuine reason for doing so then it's grand really, if I was in your position that's what I'd, do penalty points screw you over from insurance pov too, best to do all you can to avoid them ethics be damned.

    Im afraid you dont understand the system. A Judge has NO control whatsoever over applying points or not. Although they have said before in court that they will only apply the origional two points.....people come back to us later roaring and shouting for getting 4 points. The points are automatic and inacted in law to be applied on conviction.
