hey guys, i wanna do a small mod to my xbox360.

basically, i want to cut the top off, and put a plexi glass cover instead, and i want to mod the dvd drive so it is see through.

this is the effect im looking for with the dvd drive.

also planning some small internal lights.

any suggestions on powering the lights?

and where i could source a small sheet of fairly good quality plexi glass?

would also like to tint the glass if possible.

The mod would be somewhat pointless unless you've put a window in your 360's outer case. So you might be looking to source a bigger sheet of plexi, no?

For a power source it's possible to put a hole in the back of the dvd drive case and feed the LED wires outside to an external connector. This other end of this connector would be soldered on the motherboard, perhaps at the fan header if you need a 12V?

If you prefer an internal solution, like powering the LEDs off the PCB then I'm afraid I've no idea where you steal a little power from maybe you could steal a little power directly from the power header?

*Edit:* As an aside, most places deal in large sizes of perspex/plexiglass and cost a fortune but there are a few on ebay who sell perspex/plexiglass in the right size. Here is a link to the category: http://listings.ebay.co.uk/aw/plistings/category26258/index.html?from=R11 There is also http://www.trentplastics.co.uk, but I don't know what their delivery is like, prices seem cheap enough and they offer various tints.

yeah i would be putting a "window" in the outer casing. thats what i want the plexi glass for.

im going ahead with this, as i picked up a broken xbox for 35 euro and fixed it last night. :D

Oh, I thought you were putting the plexi into the DVD drive where you can see the disc too, my bad :D

Let me know how much you pay for the plexiglass, I'd like to know for future reference who you went it and how much it cost :)

Ah I was mesing about the old part, a lot of work had gone into it alright
bt i'd say it would be distracting after a while of playing it! More suited to a night club or would have been :)
