Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nikon D60 v D40 Camera advice

First off let me say sorry for starting a thread about something that gets asked with sickening regularity.

I had a search but couldnt find an existing thread that answered my question without having to go through loads of text.

The question is this, I'm looking to get a decent enough Digital SLR that I intend to use mainly for photography for Websites and all that entails.

At the moment I'm between the Nikon D60 and d40. Is the d60 worth the extra money considering I'm just using it for shots of home interiors / the odd profile of an executive etc.

Is there another camera that would suit both my needs and budget? I'd like to keep the cost under the €400.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks for the reply. I was kind of thinking, that for my needs, the D60 might be too much or to put it another way, I might be spending more than I need to.
    Thanks again.

I have the D40 and it suits me fine. The only advantage I would see the D60 has that I would like is the 10megapixels over the D40's 6megapixels.

Take a look through my pix account if you want to see shots taken with a D40. http://pix.ie/philipmchugh/

To be honest, I think that for the use you describe, both would be more than capable. You would probably be better off with a Bridge Camera. One of the Fuji Finepix or similar would suit you quite well.

As shooting for the web or anything internet based does not require a DSLR, any DSLR will do from the D40 to the Canon 1000D. In fact I would recommend a very good compact perhaps with a better than 3x zoom and good stabilisation. If it had a hot shoe for flash all the better as better lighting will improve any shot web or not. Depends on what you are shooting - objects, landscapes, buildings , people. For steady shots a tripod would be worth investing over paying extra for the D60

As far as I am aware, the D60 comes with a VR lens as well while the D40 is the standard lens. I may be corrected on this as I have not seen a D40 advertised anywhere for a while now.
You mention a budget of €400 and I see that Bermingham Cameras have a "one off" new D60 for €399, which sounds like good value. However, like the previous poster said, for your purposes, the D40 is well capable of the job . . . if you can find a new D40.
