Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm looking at northern cars because they're cheaper, But I have a van I want to trade in. Will it cost northern garages to much to consider or is their VRT pretty much the same...? Any help would be great...

a lot of the N.I dealers deal with traders south of the border and offload their trade-ins that way.

I looked up the southern cars, then the northern cars and the vrt on www.ros.ie ...... I'm interested in the saab 9-3 and you can get higher spec with less mileage and it works out cheaper... So in this case it is cheaper, havn't done all makes and models so wont argue any more.

just watch the actual emissions figure of the car you're looking at when calculating the VRT.

yeah I was worried about that, i tried the 3 options for the 2.2 and the three of them still wotked out cheaper, another question; Is the 9-3 worth buying with 80000 miles on it, I think saab have good engines that'l keep on going but couldn't find that evidence on forums...

    I wouldn't buy a 2.2. the 1.9 is far superior

Saab outsource a lot of their engines, the 2.2 is an Isuzu/GM unit, the 1.9 is Fiat.

    +1
The 1.9 is a far better engine. The 2.2 is a bit long in the tooth now

Saabs are nice and definitely worth importing.

depends on what year you're looking at. the older ones are 2.2

    03 04

What do you think bout the petrol, waste of cash?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,478 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    the 1.9 came in 2004, 2.2 was 02-04.

TBH, there are better options out there if you're gonna be paying that kind of road tax. the 2.2 is a tractor of a yoke.

I wouldn't buy a 1.8i as it's the same as you get in a Vecta and the gearing is ridiculously low. I quite like 2.0 turbo petrol engines.

Yes just read up on the other posts on boards and the 1.9 or the 2.0 seem good... I'm also looking at other cars, not narrow minded, looking at the mondeo 05 maybe, mazda6 05 also, maybe older mercedes... Its tough to decide.. I have a 05 transit to trade in and only want to spend about 3k along with that.. I'm looking for a car with a good engine, that'l take high mileage.. Don't mind buying high mileage, 60k to 90k

A Mondeo 130bhp would be a great option.

So does anyone have any names of dealers or websites for them that people know definetly take southern cars as trade ins?

    www.desmondmotors.co.uk

Dont expect a great price for your vechicle, it will be resold down south again, probably in Dublin.
