Meteor roaming or UK sim?

I'm on Meteor bill pay and am going to UK on Thursday for a fortnight - friend has just posted out to me a UK Vodafone payg sim to put in my 2nd (unlocked) phone. It says *sim card not valid* Anyone know why that is? Have tried in four different phones.

What I really want to know is what will be cheaper when I am there- to call Ireland cellphone from my Meteor phone, or a UK pay as you go sim??? I will also need to call UK mobiles when I am there - obviously! Thanks.

It will cost 75p/minute or more to call Ireland as standard with Vodafone, but you can add "Vodafone International" to your PAYG for free ,
With this, it is just 5p/min to Irish Landlines, 15p/min to Irish mobiles, 20p/min to UK Landlines and Mobile.
However texts to Irish numbers are 24p

Opt into Meteor cheap roaming deal with T-Mobile.

Remember to select t-Mobile on your Meteor mobile, otherwise you may be charged for receiving calls.

you don't have to opt in when on billpay OP, just manually select T-mobile on the handset

Thanks! I'm so confused though - will it be cheaper for a Meteor mobile (on bill pay) in Ireland to call me on my UK no or on my Meteor no??? As you can probably tell, I don't get out much:D

Another Meteor number calling you may be free for them if they have free meteor to meteor calls and you are using the Meteor sim. If you are on T-Mobile and you've opted into the deal you won't be charged either. Otherwise you'll have to pay the roaming charge.
