Our TV booster just died, and digital will be very poor reception where we live, so we're thinking of making the jump to satellite... but might as well make it satellite broadband too, since Eircom's not in any hurry to upgrade our exchange.

Is there a company which does both together, that any of you would recommend?

And what sort of prices would we be looking at?

    You need two different dishes.
a 80cm to 1.2m dish pointed one direction for VSAT (Internet via Satellite) and a 45cm to 60cm (depending on location) mini-dish for 28.2E, the source of all the Free UK TV (over 40 decent TV channels + 12 decent Radio out of 200+ free TV and 70 odd free Radio).

RTE, TV3 & TG4 on satellite is only available on a SkyDigibox receiver and Sky subscription.

The two systems are quite unrelated and need separate cables etc.

There are some installers expert enough to install both. But usually you need separate installers. The best Satellite Internet suppliers don't install TV at all.

A subsidized Sky Install will be for TV only.

The only thing in common is that both rely on satellite.

Satellite Interent has over 800ms Latency and at the minute is quite expensive. In q4 2010 it may be cheaper and use a smaller dish.

In Germany you can use the same dish for both with special hardware as they can get Internet AND TV from 13E. But until the new system (KaSat) is active, even in Germany the TV works better (x3 channels) on a separate dish with a 19 & 13 duo horn.

Internet by Satellite (VSAT), 2nd largest supplier in europe, possibly longest in Irish Market and they migrate you to Fixed Wireless, Metro or DSL if it becomes available. http://www.digiweb.ie/business/products/connectivity/broadband/satellite/

The other Irish companies are not full ISPs, they are just agents/Installers for Satellite Service Providers in UK, Italy, Netherlands or Germany.

Check here http://www.techtir.ie/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=43 and here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=55 about Installers for either Sky Pay TV (needed for Iris TV). You can use free Satellite for all the main UK channels and an aerial just for Irish TV (that's what I do, we have 3 dishes, and several receivers).
