Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Windows Media Player - No Video

    But played the audio.

Have some movies I want to play (.avi) but initially, wouldn't play the video but played the audio.

Installed xvid 1.2.2 and this brought video for some of them. While it strarted playing the film, a box appeared saying that wmp cannot play this file.

    Any ideas?

Then tried to play them in realplayer, and had video but no sound i.e the opposite to the problem in wmp.

    Would really appreciate any help.

    Thanks.

Try installing the K-Lite codec pack. It's most likely a codec issue and K-Lite carries pretty much everything.

If you're not comfortable with adding codecs you could try downloading VLC (VideoLan) as it supports about 90% of stuff without the need to install codecs.

If you're on Win 7.. try Shark Codec (http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html) instead of K-Lite (much better).

    Hey, thanks a million for that. It has solved the issue for about half of the files. When I try to play the other half of the files, I'm still getting this;

"Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help."

Those files are also .avi which is strange.

Could it be that the K-lite didn't have all the codecs needed?

what kind of files are you trying to play? what are the extensions eg (.avi, .mkv, .rmvb etc) ??

Did it give any other info - like an error number? K-lite usually has everything unless they are a very obscure codec in an avi container.

Can you try playing them in VLC or windows media player classic (http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/). If they play in VLC they we know the files aren't damaged and if the place in MPC then we know that it's something with Windows Media Player itself as MPC relies on the codecs installed on your system

try playing them with VLC player from videolan, it plays nearly all media files and has a heck of alot of codecs internally

It's handier just to install VLC, it has most codecs.

Gspot can identify the codec that is used before having to install a sheet load of codecs. :)

Legends guys, downloaded that VLC player and it plays all the files. Haven't even heard of it before.

Thanks a lot. Really appreciate it.

Yeah Ruu, I tried that but even after i installed the codec that's needed it still wouldn't play all the files.

It's ok though, VLC is fine.

    Thanks.
