    Hi all,

    http://tinyurl.com/yjlcp7s
http://tinyurl.com/yjrh674 (the same, but in list form)

This is a setup I've been looking at for a while now, and I was wondering what people's opinions are for (primarily) running MS FSX on it. I haven't added anything on to the default options on the website. Could I do better, or should I be adding any of the other options available for that rig? The budget is around 900 or so, but that can be stretched.

    Thanks in advance,
    Neil ;)

PS. I know DELL is not everyone's cup of tea, but I've had no problems in the past and I find them the easiest to work with when building computers, and also if anything goes wrong :).

    Dude, it's a DELL!:P LOL

Seriously though, you would be better putting a pc together yourself. Oh and the graphics card is TERRIBLE.

I would, but my worry would be making an a*se of it and getting parts that are incompatible with each other

Cool man, I will post you some links. To help, just like lego.:) 800 budget, give me a few minutes.
The gts 240 is a joke too. Gimme 10 mins.

Well that's what this forum is for, to help you make the right decision. It's fairly straightforward anyway, compatibility will be listed on the specs of the parts so it's hard to get wrong just so long as you do your homework. And assembly isn't much more difficult than Lego.

What's your intentions for the new machine anyway? Gaming? Work? Browsing?

Have to agree with CS Hasuki.
It's just clicking stuff together. You'll be well able to do it yourself.
It's so cool when your own build starts up for the first time and you know you made that happen (well, sort of).

Browsing and occasional gaming, primarily FSX - my current system 'does the job', but it's not ideal as I'm an aviation junkie :P. I have replaced parts in my PC in the past, so I know(ish) to do it and how easy it is. But like I said the main worry is compatibility.

€784.05. You would still need a keyboard & thermal paste. This would be much better investment, because, you can add a 2nd graphics card to upgrade(as you have a good power supply unit that could handle it). Improve the cpu when needed.(without changing motherboard) So when you need to upgrade in the future you will not need a whole new unit.
Oh and with this you are DX11 ready. (this pc would eat your dell for breakfast for gaming) And it is much more "future proof"

    Just an example.

    Wow, you worked hard! :p

Thanks so much for taking the time to research that for me, I really appreciate it. ;) I'm cool for the monitor, keyboard, etc. I'll just use the ones I have now.

Oh, by the way, what is thermal paste?? :o

You put about the amount of a grain of rice on the centre on the cpu and attach the cooler. It basically makes the heat transfer between the cpu and cooler work.
    (essential)

Have a look around. Post a potential build and just ask of any issues. I am sure plently of people here will help you out.

Ok, thanks again for the help. I'll start doing my own bit of research over the next few days and 'try' to put something together.

Cool. Guarantee after your first build you will NEVER buy another DELL lol;)

I'll be the devils advocate.. now its not just like putting lego together (not the first time anyway).. it can be tricky for the non enthusiast and thats just when it goes right ..

Anyone who disagrees with me, take your entire PC apart and time how long it takes your mother to rebuild the whole thing from scratch..

Its true, the experience of building a PC is very rewarding, I love it, and with gaming machines you get much better value and performance than ridiculously overpriced Dells..

    But

If you hardly know a thing about PCs and have no interest in how they work And just want to press a button and 'make computer go now' then you can buy good gaming PCs at better prices/quality than Dell, which will do just that..

    However..

If you are willing to give it a go, and take a little risk (theres always a little risk with building, a bent pin, one dodgy stick of ram, one weird windows blue screen install that takes 3 weeks to figure out, etc, etc) then I would say it is well worth it, knowledge, experience, price, quality, performance, everything..

    but ye be warned

I'm 18, not 80! :D I know a lot about PCs, and like I said I've replaced parts, etc. before. However starting from scratch is a bigger deal and that's why I'm slightly apprehensive, and hence why I've always gone down the DELL route till now. I'll weigh up all the options and see what's best for me.

    Hey again lads,

After a bit of careful consideration, I've decided that this time around I won't build a system myself, I'll 'let someone else do it' - but it's definitely something that I'll do in the not too distant future, so thanks for all the help on that and for opening my mind towards self-building ;)

I'd like your opinions on this system - what selections I should make while 'building' it etc. Just to remind you, I'll be using it primarily for Flight Sim X, so it'd be great to know how it could potentially run on this system. And yes, it is a DELL once again  :pac: http://tinyurl.com/yhsy8oa - (I have changed only one thing - the processor, to the 'Dell Recommended' i5 650)

Once again, a big thanks for your time and consideration guys,
    Neil

Well Id still say go self build, but if you want the opinion on that Dell then...

You would really want to upgrade the gpu, even if FSX is more cpu dependent. To spend that kind of money on a gaming machine which has a gpu thats between HTPC and entry-gaming is madness.

If you are going for this, then go back to the 8100 line up and pick the next one up, it offers the i5-650 as a base cpu, 2 gigs more ram, more hdd space (raided too for a little more kick) and after upgrading the gpu to the 5770 comes in at €959 (rather than €1049 upgrading the model you linked above).

    selfbuild

Isn't there anywhere else in Ireland besides DELL that he can pick up a pre-built gaming PC with OS on it that isn't completely cack or utterly overpriced?

    And don't say custompc.ie...

Original poster - get a PC built from hardwareversand.de, BUT order an operating system with it and get them to install it (35 euro fee), it basically guarantee's that the PC will be working when you receive it.

It will be also be far superior and cheaper than a Dell gaming PC.

Someone can spec you up a PC from the sites PC configurator
