Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Depends largely on the year of car you are looking at buying.

afaik, if its after 08 the 2.0 is cheaper to tax cos its cleaner. The 2.0 is a lot better of an engine!!! If its before 2008, the tax difference is only €32 a year.

It will be an 05 or 06.

I currently pay 500+ tax PA on an a4 2002 tdi.

If its similar may get a smaller car.

Obviously the difference between 1.9l and 2l will be very little. Google is your friend, surely it's not difficult to look up three words?

    Thanks people so far.

If Im importing a car that is on English plates now and is say and 05 or an 06
    then it goes on CC?

"A private car first registered abroad prior to 1 January 2008 will be taxed on engine size (cc). The new CO2 based system does not apply to second-hand imports that were registered abroad prior to 2008."

    1,901 to 2,000 614 - 614 euros is just mad money.

Maybe so, but I'd rather pay 300-400 more and drive a car I truely enjoy, instead of saving a few bucks on tax and driving around in your typical Irish sh1tbox spec.

I've been driving a 1.4 petrol for the past 3 years at €333 tax per year. Now the brain was telling me I 'should' buy a 2008 1.9 TDI and save loads of money on fuel and tax. I said hell no and bought a 2006 2.0 TFSI petrol.

True, I'm paying about €450 more per annum on tax, but it means I have a smile on my face every time I sit into it. :)

Mmmm thinking the same myself. My mates say "god I love your car" and I have to go by what they think :-)

Ive worked a 14 hour day and Im fairly brain dead at this stage.
What does an Irish Audi a4 cost in tax PA? (never imported)
Or what c02 band is it in? Is there a disincentive to Import from the UK re car tax?

Well you mentioned that the car will be a 05 or 06, so Co2 levels/bands will not come into play regarding taxing the car. It will be taxed on the size of the engine (1.9 / 2.0).

Ok so any car imported or not goes by cc if > 2008 reg.
