I am having problems with my vuo+ duo on the Irish terrestrial stations. I am using VIX 2.2.110 12 August 2011. I have downloaded the italysat driver etc. and it is installed correctly.
The issue is that following a recording on RTE 2 (for example) I get an error message "Tune failed!" when I change the channel. The programme has recorded. I have to switch off the power and reboot to get access to the terrestrial stations again.
Has anyone a solution for this?
That's the same issue I was having with my NovaT, and still do but to a lesser extent. Now, I've the Nova-T running on a powered USB hub, and then into the STB.

I don't rely on it to record anything though I have to reboot the box less.

Anyone have any luck with my previous query, running the Vu online (via VLC or some such) so I can access it at work for example?

I'm looking to get a FTV card for my Vu+ duo to watch Motors TV.

Where's the best place to get one that is already activated and ready to go as I don't have a Sky box?

Wow, I'd never heard of Motors TV, many thanks, just tuned it in. Order a sky card from sky using this guide - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=64022111

    or this search
    http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1311&bih=884&q=sky+ftv+card+site%3Aboards.ie&oq=sky+ftv+card+site%3Aboards.ie&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=1372l8694l0l8853l27l26l0l14l14l0l237l1762l5.4.3l12l0

When it arrives, you can chance the phone activation or there are one or two boardsies with boxes that can do it via phone and they might help you. Or, go to a sat installer ans ask them for a card/sh box deal.

I received my Vu+ Duo from Satnet on Wednesday, flashed it with latest VIX 2.2 firmware, the basic setup was not that hard. Iam using an old tv with scart connection, of some reason the text in the setup menu becomes very small, is this normal? Any way to make it bigger?

It becomes very hard to see the channel list when the text is so small.
Is it like this that the Vu is designed for newer HD ready tv's and are not suited for older tv's?

I cant figure out how to set up favorite list, is there any guides out there?

I just got my Vu+ duo and have it set up for FTA channels.
I don't have any Irish channels yet and from what I can see in the thread, there are a couple of ways, but it's hard to so the pros & cons.
I think I can use Nova / PlayTV, but can drivers can be an issue or I can do with a Sky FTA card, and maybe get other channels also but looks a bit more stable.
Have I understood it right and anyone any advice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,524 ✭✭✭stanley1

playstation playtv with nova_T drivers will give you dual tuners for saorview, sky FTA card will give you extra sat channels, I think it's 5, 5*, 5usa.

  • Registered Users Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Gunther_Gloop

Channel 5 is on FTA so you'll have that anyway.

I haven't heard of anyone having problems with a playstation playtv using the Nova T drivers, so if you can find one of those that's probably your best bet IMO.

I have a Nova T and I've had very few problems with it. Once every couple of weeks it does go blank and I need to hard-reset the unit in order to get them back. That's not a problem for me.

The playtv usb stick, as Stanley1 points out, is a dual tuner too of course, so you'll be able to record one Irish DTT channel while viewing another.

I hear well-priced ones pop up on ebay every now & again.

Playtv I think I'll be looking for then.

I got a Sky FTV card and have it working using CCcam. I would like to try and get it to work using oscam to watch Pick TV.

I'm not really interested in pick TV just want to try get oscam working. I have installed oscam 1.00.3199 and have put the three files in var/tuxbox/config. What am i doing wrong?

I'll tell ya what you're doing wrong shall I!

You're not bothering to thank people on the forum when they help you, and furthermore you're sending unsolicited pm's to people looking for help without introduction, thanks or anything...just a whole pile of expectation.

okay i'm not sure what your problem is as I was only asking for some help.

I tried using the files you uploaded and the advice that azzerretti gave but haven't had any luck. I pm'd you because you seem to know something about oscam and I couldn't see where I was going wrong. I thought you might be able to help me.

If you look at post #1756 above, I responded to your question about sky ftv cards. I put a reasonable effort into that response, I researched and found an old thread and even did a google search and posted both links for you. That post probably took me 5 minutes to complete. You didn't even acknowledge it or as much as click a thanks button.

Now that in itself wasn't an issue for me, in fact I didn't even notice it until last night when you sent me a pm. In that pm, you didn't even use the word "hi". Just straight in with questions about oscam. No "bye" or "thanks"; nothing. Just a series of questions full stop. That's when I considered both and came to the conclusion that you might be a little rude.
Now rather than come back at me with a "what's your problem mate"; Perhaps just take on board what I'm saying as a constructive criticism, learn from it and move on. You'll surely do better for it when asking questions of others.

I'm done with this now, apologies to all for going OT. Not trying to thread spoil. I will post no more on the matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,615 ✭✭✭swoofer

oh my oh my, who is being rude, whats the big idea of quoting his long thread, it means we have to scroll down for ages to next thread, and you could have easily told him in the pm.

This is a hobby and when you are slaving over a quite complicated process and your head is buzzing its hard enough to drag yourself away from the task in hand to ask what you hope is the correct question. I cant see any reputation counter for thanks so it does not really matter. All of us have helped people and never heard from them again. The VU+ with oscam is complex so if you dont know just say nicely and I am sure you can switch off PM's . We are all trying to master the vu+ and I for one am delighted that recyclebin has taken the trouble to include his conf and I hope he wont be put off by your reply.

I would refer him to other vu+ boards and I think I put a link elsewhere about oscam I will dig it out elsewhere.

for those sky cards u can try flebay or with a uk address do it online, it has to e activated in sky box and then will work, the ftv even work sometimes with no call to sky

He has a point though a little politeness goes a long way. I'm wondering why a Pm was even used surely its better to put any questions here so all can see and gain from the knowledge?

Ok guys, just an update on oscam.

I posted on world of satellite and got a detailed response from a guy called clabs on how to setup oscam. I'm going to try it this evening after work. I'll let you know how I get on.

The link to the post is:
    http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?7376-CCcam-amp-Sly-Setup-on-VIX-2.0-by-dymebox&p=85376#post85376

I bought the ftv card from ebay and it came activated. It cost €35 euro and the seller was based in ireland so it should be easy to find if anyone else is looking to buy one.

I followed the instructions from world of satellite and I had Pick TV clearing for about 10 seconds but then it froze. I think I might give up on this until the weekend when I have a bit more time.

If anyone is looking for TSpanel I got it from here http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?8349-TSpanel-(Tunisiasat-Panel)-by-mFaraj57/page2&highlight=tspanel

TSpanel looks like a nice plugin and it allows you to unintall packages, download CAMs etc.

To install TSpanel copy the ipk file it to the tmp folder on the vu+. Then use the remote to go to menu, setup, vix, install local extension and hit green to install.

Pay particular attention to the slot that you have the card in, and the orientation of the card. I'm still not sure which is slot one and which is slot 2 so try em both and duplicate them in the config files (overkill) and work back from there.

Here are my latest config files and my version of oscam. This lot works well and is clearing pick tv. You can see in my oscam.server, I had both slots covered and then rem'd out the one I didn't need. I also removed my box ID for privacy although I'm told that oscam doesn't even need it.

Try these with this particular version of oscam.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,516 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Success. Pick TV is now working. Thank you dnme. The card is in the lower slot with the chip facing down.

I used your files but changed the box key 00000000. I also used a slightly newer version of oscam 1.00.5953 from here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/wnyHV50A/VIX_CAMS.html and it all worked fine after I switched off the power and rebooted the vu+ duo.

Nothing to do with this thread, but no, it's not HD on Sky.

How is it nothing to do with this thread? We are/were talking about the best way to get Irish DTT on the Vu+. I only just thought about the 'HD aspect' and so thought to ask both because of this thread and as a direct result of what was asked.

Not having HD makes it a definite no-no as far as I'm concerned. (I do have a no-longer-in-use Sky card that I was thinking of maybe trying out).

RTE two is in HD on saorview which can be got on the vu+ duo using a usb dtt dongle. It cannot be got in HD on same satellite as sky or via a skybox.

It should be possible to get it via Saorsat in the future but that isn't readily available yet

I think we should qualify SAORSAT in that it will be broadcast from 9east, using a spot beam, and it will require a totally different type of LNB, that at the moment costs a fortune. look here for all the info. http://www.saortv.info/satellite-saorsat/

should I get my vu+duo or wait??

Why wait? It's a great box and half the fun is learning to set it up.

Can someone confirm, with the latest version of VIX, I can no longer store my epg on internal memory, is this correct?

Main menu - setup - system - epg - settings - epg location

I used to be able to choose internal memory here, but now the only options I see are /media/hdd and a network mount I have setup. Is this correct? If so why? It used to run great when on internal storage. Now I regularly get spinning vix and gsod.

Also, has anyone elses RTE/DTT epg disappeared again? whats the cure this time?

Yeah your right about not being able to save the epg to internal memory. I connected a USB memory stick to by vu+ and can save the epg to it. This means the hard drive doesn't have to keep spinning up anymore.

The RTE/DTT epg is working fine for me. I've CrossEPG set to download the Sky UK open epg.

I used to be able to save epg to internal memory. Why can't I anymore? It was the most stable when I could do that.

Also, that epg feature where you can preview many channels in the epg window is just crazy. I press epg, browse to a chan, click ok and preview it in the top right small window. I then continue browsing on through the epg looking at different chans, and times reading the epg to see whats coming up. Now I decide I want to watch the chan thats previewing in the top right window. But wait...... I can't, at least not easily!!!

If I press ok, I'll go into preview mode on the chan that I currently have the cursor on. If I press exit, I'll revert back to the chan that I was on before I entered the epg. The only way to watch what I now wanna watch is to scroll all the way back up through the epg, find that chan that I am previewing anyway and press ok on it (again). But what if I am not sure or dont remember the chan name etc. It's just bloody awful, catches me out all the time. Talk about a textbook lesson in how not to do usability!

Also, anyone elses DTT epg done these past few days? I'm pulling both rytec and opentv etc, but the DTT stuff is just gone (again).

I'd imagine that they removed the option to save the EPG to internal memory, to perhaps keep as much available to VIX and maybe help keep it more stable?

I store my EPG, Picons, etc to HDD - I'll take my chances :)

On another note, regarding the Nova-T, I'm finding it much more stable now that it's plugged into a powered USB hub. It might be the hub, or maybe a Vix-Fix, but either way, it's far more reliable now.

just noticed, crossepg will not save to media/usb. it keeps saving to media/hdd, I'm using latest updated Vix. on VUDuo.

Is it possible to go back to older versions of VIX? Where would I find such downloads?

How do I get the 37.5W satellite on the Vu+ with VIX? It jumps straight from 30W to 45W for me.

Shamrock Rovers v Derry City is on there in 4:2:2, was going to watch(through VLC).

Just to update, one dodgy hdd later got my Vu+duo up and running, using latest version of VIX, and loving it!
Still not using for its full capability but still liking speed compared to my old DM7025.
    Thanks for all the advice

I know it's a little late oatesy but you need to update your .XML file just google it. Once you have chosen your sats needed FTP the file to the duo to etc/enigma2

Does the VU+ Duo decode 4:2:2 signals?

no, I think the azbox can.

I think you may be able to view 4:2:2 signals if you stream to your computer and use VLC

I'm finding CrossEPG very flaky lately :(
I have it set to open EPG for 28.2e and 13e(Sky Italia) along with a few rytec sources and for the last 2 weeks my EPG is a mess.
And I'm finding that even with Rytec sources disabled and just set to 28,2e OpenTV that it will download fine one day and be a complete mess the next, necessitating a forced download to populate the EPG again....

any other EPG you can use on VIX?

    +1 on the poor epg.

I have had no Irish DTT EPG for ages now and lately I'm missing ITV HD, Chan 5/HD, 5*, 5USA, Pick TV, Motors TV and Viva. It s a mess.

I can only conclude you have it set up wrong.

DTT epg working fine here. As for the rest, I don't think I ever had Channel 5 HD and the others you mention (I do have Channel 5 standard though). Possibly I do/did have those channels, but I'd never look at them either way.

I can see why you'd be upset if it was working and suddenly "isn't", but still you must have something somewhere set up differently. A similar thing happened me a few months back. It had happened because my Duo wasn't connected to the network/internet at the time. Once I sorted that I twiddled a few settings and it all worked fine. Can't remember what exactly I did -something about Rytec/ OpenTV.

It's silly to just slam the whole system/ device like that.

My DTT EPG is populating perfectly, have no issues at all with that

You could use the XMLTV importer in the EPG menu and set it to a scheduled download.
Then not use crossepg at all I suppose.
But I much prefer the OpenTV data from CrossEPG as its the actual Sat data and is more reliable for Autotimers and the like.
And there are other .xml EPG plugins but most use the same datasources as far as i know, not sure about ones for OpenTV data

    @Gunther Gloop @banie01

Care to tell me how you have your epg setup?

Edit: I just did a manual Rytec epg download, it has successfully populated my DTT channels, so I'm guessing my auto setup must be overwriting it. Tell me, what order do I run the epg downloads in?
