I didn't think the Vu Duo was strong enough to do transcoding on the fly. Thought you needed a Solo for that. Let me know if you get this to work!

its not, so thats why I want to use VLC to transcode the stream on my PC first

I've been out of the Vu+Duo-loop for a while. Hadn't updated in around a year. Forgotten most of what I knew.

A friend asked me about getting the RTE Player on there. We tried -and failed- on his one (tried the OnDream -or whatever it's called), but that's not my problem... My problem is I decided to update my player today in order to try the live player thing again. Updated the firmware. Updated Vix (to 3.0 -the latest one, I think).

The attached Nova-T wasn't picked up so I downloaded the dib-700 (or whatever it's called -similar to that anyway) driver from the plugins list. Rebooted (hard-reset). Looked in tuners again -no "C" tuner in view.

Am I forgetting to enable it somewhere else or any other suggestions on what I should do? It's definitely plugged into the back.

...After that didn't work I tried another plugin. Think it was a dib380 or something like that -just because it sounded familiar. Anyway, needless to say that did nothing for me either... but I'm thinking it'd be best to remove it anyway... er, how?

I was thinking the Vu+Duo would have a more friendly useability-factor by now, but if anything it seems to only have gotten worse!

Fair enough, I just use the app and DDNS so I can watch it anywhere, I don't both with HD when streaming at all.

What you could try to do is create a separate .m3u file for each channel you'll want to watch and have that save on your phone and then open those in VLC Player Beta on your phone. The details of the file would be something like (depending on the channel), you can keep tinkering with the details until you get it the way you want it.

What build version of VIX are you using?
All VIX versions between 3.0.709 - 3.0.739 have driver issues meaning the PlayTV/ Nova T tuners won't work on those builds.
If you move to a VIX build of .740 or later and just install the DIB0700 drivers the tuner will work away as normal.

thanks Clareman but thats not quite what i am after, I have already setup Dreamdroid to stream from my box over the internet \ 3g

So my progress is I have worked out how to transcode a stream in VLC using port 1234 and forwarded port 1234 on my gateway to the PC doing the encoding

so when I enter http://myname.dyndns.org:1234/ this should start VLC streaming to a remote location, but no joy

    Can't figure out why

the box will stream and access webif using my DDNS on dreamdroid \ Vu player on my chosen port for the VU

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,033 ✭✭✭slegs

Ok this is how you do the compressed stream using VLC.

I use ubuntu for my desktop so you would need to look up the equivalent for Windows if applicable

Simply run the command clvc in a command line on the computer hosting VLC.

See below for help on parameters

    https://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Streaming_HowTo/Command_Line_Examples/

    My example
    cvlc http://192.168.1.10:8099/web/stream.m3u?ref=1%3A0%3A1%3A2582%3A7FB%3A2%3A11A0000%3A0%3A0%3A0%3A%3ARTE%20TWO --sout='#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=500,scale=0.66,aco dec=mp4a,ab=64,channels=1}:std{access=http,mux=ts, dst=192.168.1.12:26000}' --sout-keep

Address of stream from OpenWebIf - http://192.168.1.10:8099/web/stream.m3u?ref=1%3A0%3A1%3A2582%3A7FB%3A2%3A11A0000%3A0%3A0%3A0%3A%3ARTE%20TWO

vb (bitrate) and scale (.66 being 2/3 the resolution in pixels of the source) are the important values for quality and therefore size of stream over the internet - playing with these will allow you to get the best compromise which streaming always is

dst is the machine on your network hosting VLC and the address supplied here has to have a unique port as this is the broadcast port

In this case you would map to 192.168.1.12:26000 via your router which in turn is presented to a dynamic dns address (so you can access from the outside world)

So on your phone the address of the stream would be yourdyndnsaddress.noip.com:26000

    Hope this helps

My friend's hard disk in his VU+Duo has become "read-only" for some reason (following my failed efforts the other night to add OnDemand plugin).

He can't add or delete anything from it. Any suggestions?

Has anything changed or did he try anything? Is he going through a mount point or something different?

If he can ftp onto the box check the permissions on 1 of the folders, 777 will be full access to a folder, see if he can use that. If there's nothing on the drive he wants or if he can back it up first he could just initialize the drive, that should give the box full access to it.

    Trust DVB-T usb tuner

Not sure if this has been mentioned here before, but I just wanted to share a dvb-t usb tuner that works for me.

I had been using a hauppauge WinTV Nova DVB-T that was working fine but recently needed rebooting to get over the odd freeze and I saw one of these on offer for €19 in media markt in Holland. I think they can be found in amazon as well.

    http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=18253

I just swapped out the nova and put this one in its place and it works perfectly on both BH and Vix.

Yes, the blackhole team seem to have the USB DTT sticks working fine on the Duo. Something that the Vix team have never been able to master for some reason.
Its not a memory issue, the same instability problems applies to the Gigablue Quad with VIX image.

The only thing I never liked about blackhole was the button mapping, always had to use multiquickbutton.

Is this any better now or still the same?

    Thanks.

I've never noticed a problem to be honest, I find it a rock solid image that my wife can use (which is vital). I've a Solo2 and an Ultimo running the images with no problems

Well after 3 1/2 years of faithful service my Vu+ Duo gave up the ghost last night with the dreaded "red light of death" problem. I tried the capacitor replacement solution as documented on many other fora but however no luck. I believe that replacing some regulators is the next step but my soldering skills are pretty basic and I don't fancy trying to solder a 6 legged component.

Does any know of anywhere in the Dublin area that could repair this box?

I recently installed a new hard-disk, re-flashed, updated VIX and all is now working well -except I used to be able to see the 'info'/ details on a channel by double-pressing on the OK button. ie. when a channel is on, I'd press OK to see the channel and programme name, then OK again to get details on the current programme. I now can't find how to do this. In fact I can't find any option to show me the info on a channel outside the epg/ 'TV listing'.

Anyone? Is it staring me in the face? ?

Hah, I'm having the very same problem, and it's annoying as a feature I used pretty often.

I've mulled through the many, many EPG options and only see things for OK short and long presses, but not relevant to showing Programme Synopsis on double OK press.

I too would like to find how to fix it, or if it's deliberately removed from latest VIX.

    Scratch that! Found it!

Menu > Setup > System > scroll down to User Interface > Settings...

In here "Show second infobar" will have None; change this to 3 seconds (or whatever number of seconds you want it to timeout)
    Green for OK. Done.

I recently flashed the latest VIX image, everything is working as it should but the box becomes unresponsive randomly for anything up to 30sec and one I had to reboot, i.e. vix spinning in the corner it doesn't effect recordings or anything but is quite annoying when scrolling through the menus or if I'm in the middle of fast forwarding, I have reflashed the image a few times but issue remains, I am restoring a backup but have done this before with out any issue.

    anyone got any ideas?

Same here. The newer versions of VIX seem to be a little resource hungry. I regularly see the spinning VIX in the top left corner, even sometimes for the simple act of changing channels. The VU+Duo is under specified IMO, You'd swear that things like memory and processing power were rare and expensive. The VIX image itself has always been buggy. There are still bugs in terms of functionality and usability.

I know I got this issue sorted before but cannot remember how!

I like to edit the VIX/AutoBouquetMaker generated file to include the Irish Channels.
I personally find that combining the NI settings with the ROI settings gives a great 28.2 list (RTE's and Setanta along with the UK channels and ITV HD installed at 103).
However now when I use DBE to edit the channel list, when I reload the list to my Vu Duo, all the place holder channels are visible on the channel list, i.e 1-100 are on the list before BBC1, how can I edit the list to my liking and keep the placeholders invisible?
I have enable duplicates selected in DBE and have searched through threads for advice on this without success as the advice given is for the old ''visible'' placeholders and not the newer invisible ones where the blank channels are hidden.
I don't know what else to try and any ideas will be much appreciated!

I've always had this problem with portable USB drives that are powered via USB, they do not appear to be fast enough.
    If I use a powered 3 1/2" drives I never have a problem..

Flash drive, definitely fast enough for the media though. Used to have an externally powered HDD on it though, and I'm pretty sure it was the same. I guess I'll have to update the firmware on it.

Hi, have a Vu Duo running VIX and just started using the inbuilt auto bouquet maker (not Lraizer verson), my problem is everytime it does the automatic scan I lose my Saorview channels through the USB tuner. Does anyone know how I set this up so as not to keep losing the channels from USB tuner? Thanks for any help.

Easy fix for this put all Saorview channels in their own bouquet ... then go to menu/setup/service searching/autobouquetsmaker\keep bouquets

Select your saorview bouquet and next time the autobouquets runs it should leave the saorview bouquet behind untouched.it maybe at bottom of list in the bouquets ..
    Works for me anyway..

Bit of a pain though having to change bouquets when browsing your epg. The whole point is that it's a combo as in you get to use Saorview and Satellite in a seamless manner.

I have a couple of the Saorview channels in my Favourites bouquet - I've configured ABM to keep this bouquet and it does keep the listing however after I reboot the channels are greyed out and I need to rescan.
I raised this ages ago with the VIX team but it was never sorted...

Vix/OpenPLI do great EPG once its DVB-S. They really need to get a DVB-T head on board there. At blackhole its the opposite.

A few months back, I got some helpful advice from banie and for one reason and another, I'm only getting around to using it now.

In a nutshell, I'm trying to have one bouquet that includes all the available FTA and Saorview channels.
    banie01 wrote: »
If you are using the current VIX you have no need for a 28.2 bouquet as the Autobouquets maker will create and keep up to date a bouquet for you.
    Press Menu>Setup>Service Searching>Autobouquets Maker
Then you can select your Region including NI\ROI and any UK region preferred, enable HD swap, create seperate bouquets for Entertainment, Movies, Sports, etc. and set it to run automatically to update channels automatically.
As for the 3 rock saorview bouquet, just run a manual scan on your DVB-T tuner on 738mhz with the step interval changed to 8mhz the scan will create a bouquet for you in last scanned and you can just rename it to Irish DTT via your remote.

I've chosen FreeSat & Northern Ireland in Autobouquet and done a successful scan of Saorview.

But, I can't see how to rename the Last Scanned set to Irish DTT. Also, I'd prefer to have all channels in the one bouquet - makes it easier for the missus. I know that I can download a program to edit the bouquet, but not sure if that's the easiest way to solve this?

I can't find a setting to enable HD swap (not really sure what it is either or if I should use it). I'm seeing plenty of the VIX logo even while changing channels, I've seen a few people on the thread mention using a USB stick to hold some files, would that be something to look into to reduce the VIX logo appearances?

EDIT: Just found this thread which describes the Autobouquet plugin which is built into VIX now and I'd say I'll figure how to do some of this stuff soon enough. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056747039&page=2

    hi,

was using my duo all yesterday, looking at eurosport, all was fine.
went to a dtt channel, and it was a blank screen. that has not happened to me before, but I have heard reports, so rebooted. that sorted the dtt issue, but now all the sat tuner configs seem to be messed up.

If I go to a sat channel, it says that the channel is not configured, please check the settings, or words to that effect.

I have gone and checked the tuner config, and I can't seem to select a satellite, it is only automatic, or not configured.

If I set it to be mode simple(no diseqc), and automatic, it goes to a screen 'checking tuner 0 diseqc port a for astra 2 28.2e', and just sits there. there is a red abort button, but pressing the red button does nothing.

this happened at about 10/11 last night, so just left it. it was still the same way this morning.

The box is not frozen because i can go the web interface, and zap to a dtt channel ok (but the checking tuner box is still there)
The remote will only turn up/down the volume at the moment.

    any ideas?

Reload a satellites.xml file and that may allow you to select a satellite.

    Folks.
Anyone having issues with a USB swapfile causing their box to hang?
I'm having major issues lately with VIX spinners and unreponsive Vu Duo.
I've just shifted my swapfile from a USB key back across to the internal HD and the box seems to be much more stable.

**It could be a case that my box is on the way out, I'm thinking my flash memory may be on the way out.
That said moving the swap file seems to have improved the situation greatly so it could be the USB key at fault.

Working fine for me with the latest VIX. I am using a new usb stick from Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007ZSN7U0/ref=pe_385721_37038051_pe_217191_31005151_M3T1_dp_1

I have a 64MB swap active on the usb, and epg on usb also.

I only installed VIX a couple of weeks ago, after being a long time Black Hole user. I have to say, VIX is seriously snappy and a joy to use. It has improved greatly in the past year since I used it last.

    Folks.
Anyone having issues with a USB swapfile causing their box to hang?
I'm having major issues lately with VIX spinners and unreponsive Vu Duo.

I think moving any rw resource to the HDD will cause the HDD to spin constantly, it'll never sleep and thus the box will use more power and may be louder and suffer from greater wear and tear.

The vix image is constantly being updated with gold plating, stuff that users didn't really ask for bu that the "developers" thought wuld be a great idea. The result - it's now a bit more confusing to use than it used to be but tragically, it's slower than it ever was. I constantly get the spinning vix for acts as simple as changing channels. As they add more "stuff", they introduce more bugs. Ive recently had stupid bugs (I mean doozies) in areas such as setting up an auto timer, not being able to cancel an auto timer, network browser etc. IME Their forum is a clique for back slapping and self congratulations. Anyone who dares complain, suggest improvements, etc gets hammered.

Alas it's still the best of a bad lot. I'd love for it to get into the hands of a pro team for a refactor. It could be special. Also bear in mind that the box itself is awful when it comes to performance. Very mean memory, very slow processor. As a 3-4 year old PC, it's spec always sucked.

After some further digging and some advice over on W.O.S it seems this could be a capacitor problem.
Off to buy me some caps and dig out my soldering iron!

Reload a satellites.xml file and that may allow you to select a satellite.
    hey, thanks for the reply.

I was able to find a satellites.xml file generator on the web, and pulled down a file, replaced the file /etc/tuxbox/satellites.xml with that, and rebooted.

did not resolve the issue :(

the actual error that I am getting is 'service unavailable! check tuner configuration!'

I know this a stupid question, but have you checked your cables?
Do you have an old settings backup? Or an old image?
    Try restoring that 1st?
