Now don't get me wrong; he's grand and in his element talking about current affairs and filling in for Matt.

But not motors. Caught him speaking a few weeks ago, saying that the Focus drops 10k in the first year of depreciation. Ford salesmen went berserk; he claims he got his figures from the What Car? website. It didn't even occur to him that UK and Irish car markets are completely different.

Today, he was talking about the 30kph limit in Dublin City, which sprialled into something about the colour British Racing Green.

Then he was advising all and sundry to but a pick-up truck, with completely misguided advice about cab space, economy and refinement.

Have no idea why he's being used as a motoring correspondent

Good point, Mick. And he says he drives an old school S-class, too.
