I spent the last 5 months working in a PS building in mayo....what i see going on there on a daily basis is a total disgrase!i recon the average "worker" there does 2/3 hrs work a day max...the whole place is just one big paid coffee break, they have a room with a bed called the "rest room" where you can go and lie down if you feel unwell(after you clock in of course)the staff constanly bring in their household rubbish and dump it in the work bins, there is non stop moaning about how bad their conditions are and how this country is full of gansters riping off the country.....these wasters as a whole are doing more damage and wasting more of the tax payers money than any banker or developer!!!!!shame on you all:mad:

Do you not think some of this anger you have stems from your feeling that you should be in management and not them? In fairness Its quite typical for people to think management are idiots. Not saying everything you say is exaggerated or with an angle but I do think you feel undervalued. Bullying is certainly not confined to Public sector and whatever about the past all appointments last few years have been on merit.
But I find it hilarious to be lectured on Public sector when you can take all the waste in the Public sector and stack it up against the waste of debt created in households all over Ireland by the banks. Which stack my friend do you think would be bigger?

The 'waste' of debt was up to individuals who over the years decided to but things which in turn drove the economy and generated taxes to pay for a feckless public service. If we could simply clear the decks of these imcompetants our taxes could be reduced and we could all pay back our debt a lot quicker.

Firstly nevaeh thank you for your diagnosis on my anger issues:rolleyes:...you seem to be missing my point ,the only thing that i have an issue with is wasters being paid good money(my tax) to lounge around all day drinking coffee for years on end!how can somebody who only does 2/3 hrs work a day honestly expect to be taken seriously when they are complailing about pay cuts....If these people where paying a painter to paint their home and everyday they he only had 2hrs work done would they be happy to keep handing out money to him because he felt "entitled" to work at a slow pace?

I hope you do pay tax. Most people i hear complaining about people wasting their tax, it turns out, when quizzed, that they pat hardly any tax at all themselves. That means that others in the high tax bracket are subsidising them too. And then they go on and ask for people, who pay a hell of a lot more tax then them, to pay even more tax. see the tax the rich more threads. "Rich" meaning - anyone who gets paid more than the person calling them rich.

To answer your question yes i do pay tax(and plenty of it) but i also work very hard in a sector where where my pay does not always reflect the hours and effort i put in,however this does not bother me because i enjoy my job and am glad to have employment after spending a few months out of work last year. This is why it kills me to see people refusing to do the work that they are being paid to do when there are 400k+ people on SW at the moment.....like i said before these people are a cancer on our country.I also find it intersting the amount of people that have experiences of waste on the PS yet its seems to becoming a no go area if anyone makes an issue of it"public sector bashing"maybe is should be called "the entitle not to work sector"

I too work in the public sector and can agree with alot that has been said re:waste of resources and time. I dont work in an office but in a hospital setting. We are completed under staffed and work in an emergency setting where we are getting by by the skin of our teeth!!!! I work 12 hour shifts often without any break at all!! It angers me to hear and know of people who are not doing their job and wasting money that could be used where it really is needed!!!!!
I think the PS needs a complete overhaul and new structures should be in place to ensure that people are given jobs based on ability and suitability and not just because they are there the longest!!!!
In my position i have managers who are there for years and we dread working when they are on as the place is like a warzone with no organisation. We also have younger staff acting up who do a fantastic job and it's like working somewhere completely different!!!!
I work extremely hard for every penny i earn but i love my job so don't mind. It angers me that people tar us all with the same brush but i guess people tell their own story based on their own experiences with a few people/ departments and it ends up being generalised.
In our department we've taken steps ourselves to change things. We're tackling things like lateness (usually only by a few mins but same people all the time), managers taking responsibility for different things like one for staff issues, one for work environment issues etc.... so that responsibility is not passed from pillar to post, allocation of workload so that everyone is doing their fair share and no-one skives even though its pretty hard to where we work but some still manage it!!! The list goes on!!
Small steps that won't make an overall difference but gotta start somewhere!!!!!!

Fair play to you for taking action but unfortunately for the hard workers(like yourself)when people turn on the tv or read a paper the union leaders who defend the wasters also repersent you.....maybe their should be a whistle blower system where the hard working productive people get rewarded and the wasters get their P45!

You were NOT a public service worker, you were a contractor.

There is a BIG difference and contractors come under a totally different set of conditions.
