    Hi all,
First time poster to this forum. Glad to say I became proud owner to a 6 week old female Jack Russell Terrier yesterday :D
Everything going great so far, she's even peeing and pooping on newspaper all by herself. Delighted.

Anyway booked her into City Vets today to get vaccinations as she hadn't had any. Basically Vet just gave her a quick once over, gave her half a worm tablet, parvo for flea's, and one injections. Have to go back for the rest of the vaccinations in 4 weeks time. Just wondering how much should all this cost? Today it was 60euro. Will I be charged moe the next time?

Ant info would be greatly appreciated. Just terrified of getting charged another 60euro in a months time for one injection.

It'll depend on each vets. Why not ring them and ask for a quote for the next injection. If it's too much then ring around other vets in your area for a quote too. That way there's no surprises

Ring around a few vets and check their prices. It would also be useful to get a quote for kennel cough as well, as this can be picked up when you socialise your puppy with other dogs.

Second vax could be around 40 all depends as said shop around, puppies ain't cheap though there's the kennel cough, microchip, neutering, licence, id tag etc. One thing that would be well worth your while is getting pet insurance for the puppy, if you microchip some pet companies give you a few weeks free pet insurance and then you can continue it on from there.

It doesn't cover neutering, vaccinations etc. but will save you a fortune in the long run. Esp. at such a young age he'll be vunerable for the next few months esp. when they try to eat anything and everything they shouldn't.

You could buy the vaccinations & inject them to the pup yourself.
A lot of people I know do this & save a fortune.
But if you're not confident enough to do this then you might be as well off to go to the vet.

    parvo for flea's, .
Parvo is canine parvovirus not at all related to fleas. This your man for that job. No need to go to a vet for worming or flea treatment if you research it right. If you can find someone who can get you vaccinations wholesale then grand too.

But...it is no replacement for a health check from a fully qualified vet remember that.
    pet insurance
+++ for this. Its less than a tenner a month. Maybe outside of some peoples budgets, but worth every cent imho. I cant stress this enough after ive seen the heartache some owners have had to go through deciding between their gorgeous and well loved pet or a massive vet bill. Do it!!:D

    Hi there,
Brought my puppy for her second injection last week.
Got that injection, kennel cough vaccine, flea treatment and worming tablet. Total cost €86.50. Think the injection on its own was 36.

Thanks for all the great info and advice everyone. Have looked into pet insurance and its working out very reasonable at about 12euro per month. I will definately be signing up.
Thanks for the tip about kennel cough, he hadn't mentioned this at all. Just not sure about him to be honest thats why I asked for advice. Didn't seem to like the fact that I asked him questions. Think I might look around for a new vet. Will they know exactly what to give her if I bring her health book along? Sorry for all the questions.
As for uying them myself I'd be terrified of giving too much or too little but thanks for the suggestions :-)

A good vet will be only too happy to answer any questions you have about your pet. If you bring your vacc card with you they will know where to pick up.

seriously try the pet hospital. i dont work there before anyone says it but for example my dog had a litter of pups in july and i chose to bring them (5 of them) to the vet for all there vaccs and microchips and taigh was so great about the costs. gave me a fantastic deal only charging for the chips throwin vaccs in for nothin if u get me. i even brought one pup in the worried about a little bloating(i knew it wasnt worms) and he didnt even charge me for that visit and then i got 2 of my bitches neutered and again he worked with me on cost. now i understand i have 4 dogs so was givin him a lot of business but the point i'm trying to make is he does seem to treat ppl individually instead of having his set prices and jus stickin to them rigidly!

as for bringingin along ur health book yes definately jus so watever vet u choose knows what she's had. plus the insurance is a must in my eyes! but good luck with ur new pup!
