Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Help reformatting Xp machine

Trying to get my mothers Xp machine like new. No cd came with it but Xp is on a separate partition and I have a working product code.
Tried a few months ago by pressing F9(I think) while it was booting and following the prompts. This seemed to install a fresh OS ontop of the old one, it got rid of all the adware and spyware(and drivers) but it still had all the programs and documents. There were a few other problems besides it being slow from all the crap, but it would do for the short term.
Today I tried going to C:/windows/i386/winit.exe. This installed a fresh OS alongside the old one, so now there is a choice at startup. The new one has to be activated online, but the old one is still there and full of crap.

How do I delete everything and make it like new?

Jeez man, your computer has been through the wars. Firstly, installing a new OS while leaving most of the software/programmes on the machine is a bad idea. This alwys leads to a slower machine because the programmes haven't got any entries in the registry, and many probably won't even load.

Anyway, you need an XP installation CD - any one - and then can activate it with your own licence code (which you SHOULD have got when you bought the PC). If you don't have it, contact Microsoft Ireland.

There are ways of creating your own bootable windows xp CD if it's already installed on your computer, of course you'll need your license key to activate it once you install. Here's a guide on how to do it. It's relatively straightforward but might take a while. You're probably better off borrowing someone elses CD and using it with your license key as was mentioned.
