Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal (Drogba 22 min) A brilliant counter-attacking goal almost identical to that concocted by Rooney and Nani against Arsenal last week. Arshavin gave the ball away on the edge of the Chelsea penalty area, Lampard broke, galloped up the field as Arsenal defenders backpedalled furiously and then passed the ball to Drogba, who took it past two defenders and smashed it past Almunia.

    From ze BBC text update
"The last team to beat Chelsea in the Premier League after being two goals behind was Arsenal in October 1999, 394 games ago."

    That's more than a decade ago:eek:

I'd like to see a similar stat for most teams, doubt it happens often like.

I think he means how often do teams lose after going 2 up

    Was thinking that myself.

Stats would drive you nuts sometimes.

"The last time Chelsea lost after having 12 corners before the 19th minute was 1965"

Arshavin's decison making hasn't been great. Trying to do a lot by himself and turning into trouble.

Damn Mikel - he is so limited

Reality bites again for Arsenal. They've been ruthlessly exposed by the big guns this year.

Seems that way. Can't perform against the big clubs.

    sorry

Brilliantly well worked from Chelsea. Come on Arsenal!!!
My 5 a-side team could have scored that goal. Wait, we couldn't, sunday league footballers can defend better than that. Dreadful.

Still think the draw is there for Arsenal however. A goal before half time would make things interesting.

I'd get Walcott off now and throw Bendtner on to mix things up.

Chelsea with a 2-0 lead can sit back and defend deep which means Walcott's not going to get a chance of using his pace.

Arsenal playing the better football but only just. Chelsea are too strong physically, have Drog and have a defence worthy of playing in the PL....Who were those idiots who used to say Clichy was better than Evra....yikes! The lad is clueless these days!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Come on! We need a third. :)

It's the same old story with Arsenal to be honest, great build up,neat passing but they can't put it in the net.

    Drogba is a legend. :D

Chelsea are allowing Arsenal to build up. Let Arsenal pass abot and hammer them on the counter. I expect Chelsea to try and dominate now.

The problem is that all their players have forward thinking minds and they can't do basic defending. When it works it's awesome to watch but when it fails it's just a nightmare.

he just likes one type of tactic and seems like he won't deviate from that under any circumstances.

    This.

It really is embarrassing for them. Its simple tactics. Wenger just seems to refuse that their is something wrong and his style of football is the right way/best way.

He is wrong. You simply cant get caught 4v4 20 mins into a match on a regular basis. You will be punished time and again.

Exactly and it gets punished by teams like Chelsea and Man United.

    ha, sounds familiar.

he's just lucky his team play more 'attractively' than ours.

Perhaps it's more to do with strategy as opposed to tactics.

Wenger feels there is just one way to play football and Arsenals tactics follow on logically from this. Because of the overarching nature of the strategy, it's hard to be adjust Arsenal's tactics massively.

Goalkeepers are one of the big differences in the game. Cech has looked comfortable on crosses, great save from Arshavin, great work on what could have been a dangerous one-on-one with Nasri.

Almunia, not really to blame for either goal, but it would have been possible to get to the ball before Drogba for the first goal. The second goal he had a look of fear when Drogba hit it; no way he was gonna try to get in the way of it. Pretty much got out of the way of the ball.

Both were difficult, but this guy is playing for Arsenal; when is he gonna make a world-class save?

Too easy for Chelsea; sit back, defend, counter attack. Not much thinking involved and they don't have to take risks, even if it was 0-0. Some great passing by Fabregas though but Arshavin's decision-making and finishing is poor again.

I was thinking the same. I mean far is it for us to critisise the guy but this is becoming a familier trend recently against the top teams. They haven't even been running them close.

He should really look back on what brought him success- a team full of skillful 6 feet plus players. I'm stating to question his naìvity thinking he can outplay united, Chelsea ect with this bunch.

Rafa regularly mixes things up when its not going to plan for us. Rafa has some faults, no doubts about it, tactically however, he is qwuality.

I think hes more naive than inept. He stubbornly persists with a certain type of lightweight, flair players that the big teams seem to be able to overpower at will.

    I'm afraid so.

14 years managing in the Premier League and they still struggle against physical teams.

Say what you like about Benitez but he's the best tactician on a one off match basis in the Premier League, if not Europe. Hence his good European record and consistent ability to pull off the big result when absolutely necessary.
