Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Edit: menoscemo and I were talking about us all booking into the same hotel or hotels next to each other even? I might head down on the Sunday and leave on the Tuesday if anyone wants a pasta dinner the night before.

Sounds good. Let me know what you are booking and I will do the same. Maybe the Jury's as Mithril mentions above? I will also volunteer for lifts down to cork from the big shmoke (or should we get the train?)

OI I can put you down for leg 3 of our team if thats ok with you. I haven't heard back from Shels yet so I'm trying to keep 4 free in case I need to run it myself.

yep, leg 3 sounds great. Is everyone staying both nights? I was thinking of travelling down on the Monday morning, then staying Monday night. But I'm open to ideas

I'd say a lot of people will be going down on the Monday. I'm open to either as I won't be the one driving so I can sleep on the way down. :pac:

It would be an early start on Monday.

I'll be planning on getting down there the day before, and if people are having a couple of beverages to recover afterwards then staying on the Monday as well.

I'll stick out A-Team entry in tomorrow afternoon incase we have any last minute ideas of someone else to rope in to join us, nobody else is allowed to drop out though. ;)

Staying down the monday night is the main thing ;)
I will head down on the sunday for handiness. I guess RQ will be getting a lift... who else is in the south/west Dublin area? Woddle?

Well I'm happy to get a train, they're very cheap these days. :)

Well I'm happy to get a train, they're very cheap these days. :)

I just spent the last 15 minutes pulling my hair out trying to check the prices of bloody trains from Heuston to Cork. I was clicking everywhere but nothing happened, then I read the part that says you can't make bookings more than 28 days before departure
Anyway I see the standard return is €76, no way I am paying that. If we can get some of them cheap offers I heard about on the radio I'm on for the train, otherwise I'll be available for lifts.

Anyway so what are we doing for hotels?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

The train should cost between 20 and 30 euro return. I paid 20 for a return ticket to Limerick at the weekend it's the same pricing for Cork and Galway.

I stayed in the Lancaster Lodge last time I was in Cork, in 2008 there's a Jury's right beside the Lancaster not sure if it's the one Mithril is in or not. Lancaster was alright, near the city centre, bed and breakfast, clean, quiet etc..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,551 ✭✭✭chinguetti

I'll be heading down on Saturday morning as have a few friends to visit in Cork but i'll be up for the hotel idea, grub and drinks on Sunday night.

I'll be heading back on Monday night via the new motorway and i get to avoid Abbeyleix and the tailbacks. Hurrah

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭OI

Yeah i could stay for two nights, i stayed in juries on the quay before, think it has a different name now. €85 per night

    Just checked http://corkhotels.jurysinns.com/
All rooms (singles twins doubles etc) are €129 per night for those two nights so €65pp per night for a twin. I'll book if you don't mind sharing

    that's sound

    Scrap that ^^^^^
lancaster lodge http://www.lancasterlodge.com/ is only €150 for a twin room for the two nights so under €40 pp per night.
It's 4 stars and just down from the Jury's and RQ recommended it :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭OI

    Jaysus that's a great price

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

Yep I'll be going down on the Sunday and staying Monday night. I'm also giving out lifts, I'll have to give robinph first refusal as I owe him for 1/2 a hotel room :D
Also it should be noted that any speeding tickets should be paid by all :D and not just the driver

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

It's not strictly a hotel though, more a hotel shaped guest house. They provide brekkie but not dinner but sure we'd probably be out for dinner anyway. I'm probably going to book in there again anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭OI

Actually the one I was looking at was called the Leeside Hotel and was €85 per night for a twin room aswell. But the Lancaster is better again. If we could get all of us in there now it would be great. I see where there is shuttle buses from City Hall to bring you to you start point in the relay. It looks really well organized.

Myself, Robinph and kevinkilbane all stayed in a b&b last year and it was great value but can't remember the name, any ideas Robinph

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,119 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

Not a clue, was about to ask if you remembered.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,119 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

It's great how GMail lets you do a proper search through al your old emails... found the name of the B&B we had last year. :D

Boards AC - A is now entered in the relay for Cork Marathon. This years heroic attempt at sub three for the Boards Athletic Club team will be completed by RAL3, mithril, menoscemo and robinph.

Any Brazillians in Cork on the June Bank Holiday Monday should make their way to the finish line for just before midday to get their picture taken with me and the rest of the team. :D

hi RQ, just wondering did you get my PM, I sent it from my iPhone and I know from past experience that that can be a bit dodgy when sending PMs.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Yeah, team just registered. Shels isn't joining us so sadly I will be FORCED to run two legs. Damnit! :D

Team B ready for take off.

Oh and for the record, now I'm not running Edinburgh, there's no fuffing way we're losing to team A. :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

I'll be sure to get a quality pic of you finishing. Could you pm me your adress and I'll post you out a cheque for my part of the registration. Thanks for sorting it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,551 ✭✭✭chinguetti

I'll be doing Edinburgh (all going well) so i can be excused from going really, really fast Captain RQ? Also is it ok to pay you my part of the entry fee when we're down in Cork?

I'm also booked into the Lanchester for the Sunday night so i'm guessing its become the HQ for Boards. Great prices for a bank holiday weekend too.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Yep it's cool to give me the entry fee down in Cork.

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭OI

I'm just back home now after being at a wedding all weekend. It's seriously a joke how unfit I am so please don't expect me to contribute to a fantastic time. But we'll definitely have a bit of craic. I actually can't believe I've agreed to / volunteered for this :):)

edit:,I'm gonna be on my VERY best behaviour for the next four weeks

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

    Booked into Lancasater now too.

Anyone up for a nice carb loading meal together on Sunday night then? Think we ate in Luigi Malones last time we were in Cork?

I just got the confirmation of the entry for "Boards AC - A" through in the post this week.

I've had a very lazy week and not run since the Kildare Half as the legs were a bit knackered, but will head out and give them a run this weekend now to make sure they are still actually working properly.

Based on me putting names in a random order in the list I propose the following line up:

    RAL3 - Start (Patrick’s Street) to near Silversprings Hotel: 5.2 miles (8.3km)
menescemo - Silversprings to Ringmahon Road: 5.5 miles (8.9km)
mithril - Ringmahon to Victoria Road: 5.8 miles (9.3km)
robinph - Victoria Road to Model Farm Road: 5.2 miles (8.4km)
robinph - Model Farm Road to finishing line (Patrick’s Street): 4.5 miles (7.2km)

As the legs are all pretty much the same distance it doesn't make much difference in our order, but someone might have a preference to doing a particular leg or they might be eager to get to the finish and round up the cheerleaders first.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Got that post today Woddle, thanks.

Has the Boards pub HQ been agreed? If not then we might consider Larry Tomkins*, near to St Patrick's Bridge and near to the Lancaster :) Suggestions from the Corkites?

    * Cork football legend, not many of those about :(

Got that post today Woddle, thanks.

So is chinguetti still in with his injury? If he is in I can either take my car or the train, but if Aimman is drafted in he has already offered a second lift.
