Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It couldnt happen to a nicer person

Who will replace him if confirmed ?

No real clear favourite in my eyes.

    Rio is vice-captain

logic dictates it goes to him I suppose.

    Nothing on the website yet.

Wonder who will replace him. Ferdinand, Gerrard, Beckham (if he gets into the squad)

Right, get a new captain in (probably Lampard) and forget about all this bull**** and get back to the football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,681 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Rio is the most senior player from the possibilities and is already Vice capt. I'm sure there's a strong chance he'll get it.

Actually, im sure Capello would prefer not to have a situation where Terry is club captain and Lampard is national captain.

    Gerrard or Rio then....prob Rio

it wouldnt surprise me if lampard gets it

A lot of candidates though, Rio, Gerrard, Barry, Lampard, maybe even Rooney as an outside bet

I reckon Beckham will be captain in next friendly if he starts if Capello hasn't made his decision, but not for the WC

    Hopefully not Gerrard.

    Give it to Rooney.

    I don't really care actually !!

England probably have to win it now or this will be the "what if the original proper captain had stayed on" etc etc

Rooney didn't shag his best friend and fellow Englands players missus. That;s the difference.

I really don't understand why it affected his captaincy. What he does outside the pitch is his business, i said the same when Tiger Woods was caught. It's no one's business what extra marital affairs they have as long as it doesn't affect their perfomances on the pitch.
    Who cares?

Rio should get it but Rooney might be a better influence on the team

    FFS.

what has this to do with Rooney? Nothing is the answer. The first part of your post is correct.

Terry cheats with best friends missus, no biggy, shouldn't affect what happens as England Capt.

Terry cheats with fellow England players missus, different ball game altogether. How can he command the respect of the rest of the payers after that?

If it was between these 2 Rooney shouldnt even come close for so many reasons.

Rio has more experience, in the England and Utd team Rooney has enough responsibility in just carrying the teams. It would probably make him work even harder

I think the fact Terry cheated on a players girlfriend is the issue, it would create unrest in the dressing room.

As for Tiger. He had really 2 careers, Marketing and Golf.

It's the marketing that is gone tits up, as for Terry I don't think he promoted much.

Right apologies for going off topic with that, but I think it's funny posters coming on criticising players from another team for something that their own players have done in the past.

SSN: Terry has left the Wembley (literally)

he is going to have to be very careful of who he picks to captain the team.

as soon as he's appointed the papers will go sniffing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

    Garry Barry for skipper

I'd still be a bit worried about Rooney's temperament aswell, don't want to see your Capt. kicking out at people an all that, having said that Keano made a good career out of it. Rio (apart from recent incident) usually keeps a cool head.

I think one day Rooney will make a great Capt.

Well the circumstances are hardly the same and so no point in drawing parallels.

But as you said in the first bit, a lot of footballers are retards/brainless.

Please tell me you can see the difference from what Terry England captain did from what Rooney or any other footballer did?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,524 ✭✭✭joe123

People say this has nothing to do with football but im afraid to say this does. A team mate riding another team mates girlfriend. Yeah that wont affect the dressing room at all. It might be trashy but this has everything to do with football.

I know if I was on the same team as Terry and hearing him barking orders at me Id be thinking "**** off you prick". He had to be dropped as captain. Gerrard or Lampard as capatin would be my guess now.

EDIT: Ive highlighted the bit in bold for the people who think that this is the same as what the likes of rooney did or normal cheating if you could call it that. Neither is good but Terrys is far far worse.

    why wouldnt it ?

as England captain your Ambassador for your country, your suppose to have integrity, honour and leadership. Do you think terry has any of this quality's now ?

Yeah good points. Beckham can still be a little bit petulant but he's a great captain imo.

Lads the meeting only lasted 12mins

That to me reads as though Capello already had his mind made up before the meeting.

What does everyone else think ?
