Anyone any recommendations on a good 80hp tractor with loader? Budget of roughly 15k. We have the current tractor for over 20 years. Would like something thats reliable and easy to maintain. It won't be doing anything too heavy. Normal farmyard work, manure spreading, topping etc.
I'd especially like to hear your thoughts on cheaper brands eg. Zetor.

In 2002 I bought a 1994 reg Zetor 7745 in UK with loader, and 1,200 hours on clock. Genuine hours. Tractor spotless. Total cost landed to my yard €7,550. It has been totally reliable since. Never once failed me.

Biggest down side is poorish dry disc brakes. Last October, we replaced all the master and salve cylinders on the breke system, plus gave her new discs and a new water pump. Total cost incl labour €750. That's about all we have spent on it since we got it.

Not for a contractor, but fine for a farmer, operating in whats's essentially not much over a break even business, when subsidies are excluded. Why spend big money on a "brand" when you can get the same work done with simple sound aul yoke like a Zetor.

something like above, that case is 1 owner and small hours,

the landini are a very basic simple and great workhorse, but try to find one in late 90's that has the zinc coated cabs and body work ,, much less prone to rusting

That's a little bit of a contradiction. Brakes are of critical importance. If anything else goes, you can just stop the tractor. If the brakes are "poor" and suddenly decide not to work, then you may be better off with a donkey and cart.

If you are going to spend up to €15k, you will come across a good Case of 80 to 85hp within your price range with low hours. They are a good solid tractor with not much electrics to go wrong. They will also hold their value very well.

As someone else said there i would strongly recomend a Landini blizzard 85, v strong tractor very simple to operate and good parts availability, one of the finest farm tractors s/h on the market imo.

whats the 20 year old tractor, massey? I bet you zetor dealer would trade in, new 80 hp zetor prob around 30 k, minus maybe 8 or 9 for a trade in.. I know these are roughish figures but it wouldnt be bad money for a new machine

Its a good ole Leyland 272, great tractor, brakes dodgy as fcuk! We have it over 20 years but its about 31-32 years old. Doubt we'd get much at all for it. Not really after a brand new tractor, just doesn't make sense for us. A good second hand one will suffice. I do like to the look of the Zetor Proxima series, though they're probably beyond our budget.
Some excellent contributions above. As suggested above, Case and Landini might be options.

An 85-34 would a great little machine. They have a nice left-hand manual (synchro) shuttle with 12 F+R. The one in the ad is probably not the tidiest and the wheels have been painted in an effort to tart up the tractor, but these are a seriously reliable tractor and have great traction for their size.

Id agree with most but there a hatefull thing if your doin a lot of forward and back movement using a rear mounted implement, the shutles kinda far away, prob good for loader work but if u had the joystick to your right you would need to be an octopus t drive er:o

I'd agree with you if it were a TX. ;) You would certainly want to be an octopus to drive one of them with the length of those bloody levers (Or even the newer Temis if it has a manual shuttle), but the MX has the shuttle in a convenient place, much closer to the wheel and with a shorter throw.

    Lads,
Anyone any opinions, good or bad, on this Zetor?

There is a buyers guide to the larger models in that range here:
    http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/867498/kasutatud-zetor-7341-super-8441-proxima-pdf-october-25-2008-5-53-pm-1-6-meg?da=y

The 6341 shown in the ad is more or less similar.
I drove one once for a day, and found it a handy tractor for working in around yards, good visibility from the cab but it was noisey in the cab though. Be careful though, some of those proxima/super zetors sold here had a very basic "special offer" specification,no reverse shuttle,no seat suspension, no proper spool valves, only a 30k gearbox.

I called. Doesn't have this particular tractor. Two of the same model coming in in March. One is 1999 and 2500 hrs, tanco loader, €18000. The other is 1998 4800hrs, tanco loader and €16500. I think those prices are fairly steep.

Well lads still on the lookout. I must say that most of the tractor salespeople I've dealt with have been shocking to say the least. Most seem to be disinterested when you mention a 10-15k budget. No effort to get your details and ring if something comes in. Sales must be good at the moment!

This one has been on Alexander Mills web site for a year or more. Maybe it's got something wrong with it that's slowing down it's sale. Then again maybe it's sound, and he may take an offer :)
