I have an old Rayburn no 3 converted to oil (wick burn )several years ago. Has been serviced regularily. It went out recently and I cleaned the carbon and deposits from the supply end, but ever since it has been smelling very badly (oil fumes). Just wondering what might cause this ?

Incompete combustion (insufficient air, not getting up to temperature), leaking seals or incorrectly adjusted fuel rate.
    What colour is the flame?

if there are smells of fumes that would suggest that seals are gone somewhere.
Keep the range turned off until you can get it serviced and looked at.
