What the hell was he let into fine gael for then ? to make apple tarts for the party ?

Sounds like the mistake he made was to assume he would get a major position and didn't actually nail it down properly beforehand. Its like accepting a job thinking you are going to get one wage, never looking or signing the contract and then finding out you are getting far less. Naive at best.

Jesus Ivan Yates is the leader that Fine Gael needs badly. Its a shame he stood down from them. He'd make a great Taoiseach imho.

    FG airing their dirty linen.

Chr1$t, I know, I'm a card carrying Blueshirt who canvassed with George but I am so delusioned by this.

Our ability to screw up is Fianna Fail's greatest asset. Seriously... It's incredible.

    And where is Leo V...?

The Irish political spectrum as a whole has been soiled today. George Lee was the breath of fresh air with the passion and vibrancy to try and change the views of inept parties and their ideals. Its the system folks and dont ever be fooled that your local councillor or politician has in the long term your interests at heart, for fools we all are!!!

That's one of the worst things about all this.

Probably but also very very naive.

ha ha, Yates was great. Don't know why they keep bringing up the Duffy poll, it's only a snapshot of housewives opinions, hardly a broad view of the electorate.

It's absolutely ridiculous to have taken on someone like george lee and not know what he is thinking nine months later.

Who's next for fine gael , liam neeson ?

    That's a scary thought indeed.

Its interesting to see what trickles out when there is a shock to the system.

Thought George was a secret FF agent for a while there though :)

Where are George Lee's policy documents? Where are his ideas from Dail speeches? Why didnt he convene meetings of the economic policy forum he was chairing? This is a George lee ego problem.

That'd keep the lads in the conspiracy theory forum going for a while.

    He didn't publish anything apparently.

No one was communicating with the guy ,it's obvious. So theres nothing for him to document.

Bad judgement in Fine gael ,time for them to look at themselves.

This is an important point too, one which must be remembered. If he was that good he would have made his influence within FG felt.

That's tosh, he's still being touted as our economic saviour yet he can't seem to manage document any of his ideas how, he didn't need anyone holding his hand. Here's Leo.

    Leo's on after the break......

this is awful to watch. Bet Biffo and Co are wetting themselves at the moment. Seriously, there are times when I feel the FG parliamentary party should be on a retainer to FF... Our ability to screw up the real-politik has a depth and breath that few parties can match anywhere....

What about him detaching himself from party colleagues over the past number of months? What about Alan Shatter's point that if you're a backbencher, you don't shrink into the background waiting for invitations, you put yourself out there and make yourself heard. George Lee didnt do this. What about not publishing any documents? No private members bills?

And what about the fact that policy makers in FG who made formal submissions to him, had their requests ignored?

The fact is, George Lee wanted to be parachuted directly into a Finance Ministry or Enterprise, his biggest issue is probably that there was no general election before his May watershed with RTE.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,374 ✭✭✭InReality

George needed to do some work on convincing and persuading FG's of his ideas.
He can't have expected them to just bow down before him.
That is seriously naive of both political processes and human nature.

George threw a tantrum because he didnt get his own way. End of

Very cynical, but not necessarily wrong.......

Leo is doing well. Hanging George...

Yes but that could change quite rapidly if there is a push against Kenny and the leadership changes to someone who is more acceptable to floating voters.

This could be a blessing in disguise for FG if action is taken quickly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 294 ✭✭Nicki123

If he was so isolated from the party would he not have been better served resigning from FG and carrying on as an independent?

Walking in and expecting to get a front bench seat so quickly was stupid.

George laid out plenty of rope to hang himself.
