Not really a cry of desperation, i've modeled a bunch of cars before but never really faced this annoyance.

So heres where im at. Panels are done, I've pinned the acute corners and they look good(missed a few, dont care, its just the basic form). All my key chamfers are done, and i've applied meshsmooth (1 itteration) -> grand.

Any obtuse angle seems to round off, where previously with other models they would hold their place when pinned, for some unknown reason they just keep rounding off. I've even chamfered the corner (knowing it wouldnt work).

Heres 2 pics of the model and a wireframe. Keep in mind, Its just a build to see how the panels look. The model itself is only a couple of hours in, very much so a WIP.

    Any ideas? Im stumped.

First off, nice model. Ive only modelled a couple of cars before, my experience is in architecture, so the following may be no help whatsoever! ;)

Have you tried using turbosmooth instead? Sometimes i find it behaves differently to mesh smooth, havent a clue why though. Im not sure what you mean by pinned? I usually chamfer edges to get smaller curves, and where I dont want curves I'll use smoothing groups and make sure "by smoothing group" is ticked in the turbosmooth modifier.

Ill give turbosmooth a go, i've used it before for some organic stuff.

I use chamfer to crease rather than hold a line. I usually just ring an edge -> connect, and move the newly created edge along edges to the very edge of the model... like a chamfer, only not putting a kink into the model, just telling the modifier not to think about how to smooth that area out.

Im away from the model now at the moment, ill give it a go later.. time for my "OCD" to kick in..

    Thanks for the reply

post an unsubdivided wireframe of the troubled area - looks like your attempt to chamfer is not cutting through the correct edge loops.

I rekon thats it sorted.. i must have missed a line when i was connecting the edges. So i extruded the polys and smoothed it it went arseways.

    Its a long messy process!

How does that look to you?
