Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Toyota safety issues

Is it really possibe that toyota could have installed this seemingly faulty accelerator mechanism right across its model range and not be aware of the issues with it before being given the green light for production?
Surely these things are extensively tested in the design phase and then surely the pre production versions of all cars go through millions of miles of testing looking for these type of issues among other things. How it is possible that they wouldnt have came across an equivalent percentage of failures as we are seeing now?
I am quite sure than many issues are spotted by manufacturers during testing but are allow through the net to avoid delays on model release etc. Surely though this wouldnt be allowed to happen on a safety critical item or would it?

Toyota also have issues in the States with 2008/2009 Corolla Steering issues which they've issued a recall for. Then there's the Dual Mass Flywheel failures.

The cabin ventilation causes condensation on the hinge of the accelerator pedal, causing it to stick in some (rare) instances. Toyota seem to have made the mistake of rolling this model pedal/hinge out across the range rather than gradually introducing it.

Announced this evening almost half a million hybrids are being recalled due to a fault with the ABS system.

It does sound like a bit of a schoolboy error to stick something into the whole model lineup at once as you say. Surely though, they must have had many failures themselves on this.

Is the hybrid recall just prius or lexus models too?

There's a recall on the Hs250h too for the accelerator. The ABS issue is software related, and a different recall.
