Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Windows XP repair

Windows XP HE keeps rebooting at all points, normal boot, safe mode and last know good config.

Seems to be rebooting at "press esc to stop loading SPDT.sys" even if I stop the loading process.

I have checked and found that SPDT.sys is related to deamon tools or something like that.

I'm trying to get round this by doing a repair, but I am not getting the R to repair option after the F8 to agree screen and finding the XP partition.

At the moment I have the SATA drive out and copied 'Documents and settings' to a folder on another PC (Win 7).

Now running an AVG scan on it.

    What do I try next?

put the windows cd in and run a repair or just reinstall windows

That's what I'm thinking I'll have to do.

Will it be a simple case of copying the saved 'Documents and settings' folder back to it's original location?

I know programs will have to be reinstalled again.

copy the following folders from the old documents and settings\username\

    Documents
    Favourites
    Desktop

You could copy over the other but none of it will really work.

Also how do you save your email? outlook, outlook express? Gmail? Hotmail?

9 times out of 10 those 3 folders should contain all of the information you need.

Just copy them to the same folders on the reinstalled environment.

Also back up the drivers folder on the c drive if there is one. Save you having to download them again.

also c:\windows\system32\drivers folder probably wouldn't hurt either

    Right, I'll try all that.
There are multiple users on this PC. I guess it's just a case of saving everyones stuff and replacing them when Windows is set up again?

    yup

Apart from the different users that are in 'Documents and settings' there are also two other folders.. 'All Users' and 'PC'.
Should I save these as well?

There is no drivers folder on the c drive but obviously there is one in c:\windows\system32\drivers. There is also a folder called DRVSTORE, do I need this?

Any of these others before I reinstall WinXP?

take your dell folder there, inter, nvidia folder and drvstor.

wouldn't hurt to dave all users and PC

i would say PC is another local user account.

Just put the HDD back in the original PC to erase, format and reinstall Win XP and the bloody thing won't start up now.

Usually means you have not put it back together right. Go through everything again and make sure everything is seated and connected properly.

All I did was take out the hard drive.

Checked Dell post codes and it looks like the closed is 1 - 4 - 1 - 1 RAM failure on data bits xxx of high byte on memory bus - Reseat the memory modules.

So removed and replaced them (although they were clipped in ok) and it's now running.

Just running a quick short test on the HDD and then will wipe and reinstall.
    Phew. :)

Right, copied all the files and folders back to there original location.

    Now getting...

    STOP: cOOOO21A {Fatal System Error}
The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of OxcOOOOO22 (OxOOOOOOOO OxOOOOOOOO).
The system has been shut down.

    Currently checking RAM again.

When that's finished will try an XP repair.

    Fingers crossed.

Well at least the 'R' repair option came up after the install finding the XP partition.

XP running now, just updating the user folders again, then will run Windows update.
