Stamp Duty Question

    Background
I currently, and never have, bought a property i.e. I would be considered a FTB.
My girlfriend bought a property in 2006 :( but she paid stamp duty as it was a one bed apt that she rented out while she lived at home.

We have been presented with the opportunity of buying a property that belongs to her father ( and 3 other siblings...inheritence) that is worth around 750K for a price of 600K. Obvious choice to avoid stamp duty is just to put the property in my sole name ( until we get married) BUT the problem is that her father wouldnt be comfortable selling to us for the reduced price if the property is to be registered in my sole name.

Anybody see a solution? If the property gets "gifted" to her and i buy it financed by a mortage and put the title in our joing names would she have to pay stamp duty?

The sooner stamp duty get abolished the better.......

    Thanks
