Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This will seem like a silly question to all you experts but here goes, what exactly does a central server do in an office situation , I had thought it was a system of back up, but am beginning to think it is a network

Can anyone explain simply please, there a 6 pcs in the office , dont know if that is relevant.

A server is something that provides a service to client PCs.

For example, it may be a web server that provides web pages on request.
A database server, central point to where all people connect to the same database, that allows multiple users.

A network server, may store files. An windows domain server such as Windows server may be providing username logins and other active directory features.

Email server etc :) - it goes on. Central point to which pcs connect requesting a specific service.

Ok Thank You I think I understand , I think,

Does it back up files ? Does it monitor internet activity ?
Is it possible for others or the main administrator to view my pc ?

I ask this as something that was on my PC (nothing untoward) showed up on a disc given to me , it was actually some photos of my teeth that I needed to email to a dentist .

I suppose I am asking if this server/main administrator can access my pc files or emails etc ?

Well, it could back up files yes. But for what you're describing here, I'd seriously doubt any administrator will be seeing your teeth! I wouldn't worry at all.

Ok sorry I re - read your email. A disc that was given to you contained these photos? - what was the purpose of the disc?

There was a power surge and my assistants PC was wrecked , the guy who does the repair was able to get files from it for the new PC, my boss gave me a disc and the pictures were on it ??? My PC was not effected

I was told the server was for backing up files only,

I know they had to access my PC one day that I was not there while the server was being installed. They were able to do this without my password.

Ok there might be scheduled backups to back up your docs or something. But they may have accessed your PC. Its quite simple to get your files without your password especially when administrator.

Does this translate to snooping on internet and email activity ??
