Opel Meriva Steering problem

    Has anybody had a problem with the steering of the Opel Meriva ? Sometimes the steering feel's heavy and jerky . Appreciate any info .

    Is the car in warranty? The electric powered steering column is failing. Opel will charge a lot to get it fixed, but you can get the part remanufactured via Ebay for a fair bit less. Not too hard to fit either apparently. Does the EPS light come on?

    No , not in warranty . The EPS light comes on sometimes . Think I might change it . Thanks for reply . macbog

    Unfortunately this is a known problem, but one that Opel will deny. Try Googling it.

    It's an expensive job to replace the steering column and won't always give a permanent fix, apparently there's some problem with a sensor but you need to buy the entire steering assembly. Even the replacement unit may not last for ever either.

    The best bet would be to buy a recon unit and then think about selling the car. Sorry.
