can you guys come up with just one idea, that would create employment, plus draw tourists in reasonable numbers to the city, seen as the city fathers have not an inkling.

Bring bands to King John's Castle as they did a few years back with The Frames.
Weather was shocking that night but an ideal setting.

Have you been watching the Simpsons? :D

How about a genuine rent/rates incentive for retailers to base themselves in the town centre.

And have it that the incentive is a bigger reduction to the rent/rates based on the length of the lease taken out by the retailer. Plus the rent/rate would be fixed for the term of the lease taken out.

Five year lease may see a 2.5% reduction
Ten year lease may see a 5% reduction
Fifteen year lease would see a 7.5% reduction
Maybe 10% being the cap on the reduction

And no stealth rates/charges to get back the reductions.

Ideally you could develop a route from King Johns Castle back down towards the city center. Sort of like a real life working Bunratty village.
Have special incentives to people to set up craft, workshop type developments. Something like that.

The "city fathers" have many idea's but no money.

The Regeneration of St Marys Park area, bridge from King Johns castle to the Court house, the redevelopment of the potato market, the pedestrianisation of William Street and O'Connel St.

    Who will pay for it?

Hardly a new suggestion. City Businesses have been calling for it for years.

How about the free year thing some leasing companies were doing.

Stay for 2 years and get the 3rd year of rent free. They were doing this on Sarsfield Street anyway and nobody took up the offer.

    Too little too late.

The profit from the monorail would cover most of it. Then raffles, cake sales and car washes to pay for to rest.

That was a poor offer. Yes there was a year rent free, but that year was factored into the cost of the remaining years, and you had to sign for a minimum of five years not three for it. Where I used to work looked at the option of getting a unit there as the year's free rent would have freed up cash for the company, but once it was looked into, it was not the offer it seemed.

I know it is not a new suggestion. I used to work in one of the places calling for it. Does not make it any less valid in my eyes though.

It is a no brainer in my eyes, have units that are bringing in a little less in rent and rates than during the so called boom years, or have empty units bringing in nothing.

how about a partnership with ul and maybe the co.co. if required, a conference centre at ul a few jobs in the building of it a few more in maintaing it, it would need marketing people quite a visitors when it up and running, or would it be impossible due to political egos, please do not bring the cost of building it up, as if ul were in the mood it would be built.
