Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

I have just started biking and am looking at getting myself a touring bike, Im looking at a '99 BMW f650 - there is 30,000 on the clock, but the bike looks like its in good condition. Any advice on things to look out for? and is 30,000 considered alot on a bike like this?

I don't know if you have done much research on them but a simple trawl on the net should give you all the info you need.
This was the Rotax engined bike if memory serves me correctly and was well received when it was released. Being a BMW means the build quality is quite good. I had one of these as a loaner for a short while and found the power to be a bit underwhelming tbh, but then it was built for the commuter market/starter bike and to serve as the gateway bike to BMW- a job it excels at.
Bottom line, reliable, cheap to run and user friendly.
Here is a link to some owner reviews which may help.

    Hope this helps.
P.S. Heated grips are a great optional extra!

Build quality isn't the same thing as reliability. Alfas are beautifully built- but reliable? No.

    Depends on which model etc.

BMW bikes are generally well built and reliable albeit savagely expensive to maintain (through main dealer) but the F650 is the bottom end of their range so it doesn't have the same refinement as their bigger machines.
