hey. i'm looking to buy a new 40-42" tv for no more than euro1000. I'm looking for good contrast, sound and overall picture quality. will be using it for blu ray, sports and videogames. i'm the kinda person who does notice things like bright grays and loss of detail. Is there anything you have that you can recommend.

    Hi Cursai

I have the perfect 42" TV for you:D
    Its the 42PFL8404H.
Its a bit of a Boards favourite as you'll see from a Boards search.

    Check out its spec's here:
    http://www.philipsshop.ie/Spec%20Sheets/42pfl8404h_12_pss_eng.pdf

    Its basic specs are...
    100Hz Clear LCD
    3ms response time
    80000:1 contrast ratio
Pixel Precise HD image processing engine
    Net TV
4x HDMI inputs, VGA, USB, 2x SCART etc
    AMBILIGHT

All in all an excellent TV it is.

We sell them in store for €999.99 but as you are a Boardie you can use our 10% Philips Shop Boards Discount and pick one up for €899.99 (maybe put that €100 you save towards a shiny Blu-Ray player!)

I'd say this TV is going to be a hard one to better at this price point.

I have one on display and in stock if you'd like to call in a check it out, we'll be happy to take you through it.

    Have a good weekend.
    cheers
    Ash

I would have to agree with Ash on that one, the Philips is a cracker !

It's one of the best TV's around that I have seen, at that sort of price.

The only other alternative that I would have that would offer similar performance is the LG 42" LED. It's the new SL9500 which is currently £949.95. This is a beautiful screen also, but it a bit more expensive than the Philips.

I have this on display in Belfast if you fancy the journey. :)

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Dave
