Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

UPC Cable Modem Poor Signal

I've recently had builders in the house, and had a few more cable points hooked up, which are all fed from one line split using a cheap, passive splitter. As a result, the signal I'm getting to the UPC modem isn't so great, and the modem loses sync every half hour or so. My question is, will a signal booster like this one…

I've recently had builders in the house, and had a few more cable points hooked up, which are all fed from one line split using a cheap, passive splitter. As a result, the signal I'm getting to the UPC modem isn't so great, and the modem loses sync every half hour or so.

My question is, will a signal booster like this one solve this problem for me? Will the modem even work if plugged into it?

(I do have another point where the modem could be plugged in, but I'd ideally like to leave it where it is.

Normal distribution amps work only in one direction. You'd need a distribution amp with "return path" to allow the upstream signal from your cable modem to get back out. Distribution amps with a return path of 5 - 65 MHz are available but UPC appears to be using a number of out-of-band VHF and UHF channels for upstream so this won't work.

Best bet is to use a high quality passive splitter at the UPC box with one output running direct to your cable modem and the other output into a distribution amp to feed the cable points.
