can anyone recommend links to good free plug in synths for use with ableton on the mac ill be mainly trying to produce melodic progressive and progressive trance thanks

Both of these have databases.

I'd also pick up a copy of Computer Music for the Zebra CM synth.
The TAL Audio stuff is also decent.
