Always felt Foley's show was more popular "out the country" so to speak rather than in Dublin. Certainly seemed like 90% of the callers to the show were from outside Dublin.

And a large proportion of podcasters are actually abroad if the spiel from the beginning is actually to be believed. They mentioned in one Podcast the hits are around 3-4k a day. That audience will follow him to 98fm for sure if he keeps them going.

Alan Murphy who presents the evening 8-10 show on Galway bay fm is taking over the today fm lunchtime show from late november. Alan will be great on today fm, he has been the dogs bollox on gb fm for the last 5 years or so Good luck alan

Won't ever be the same though regardless of who replaces him.

The podcasters abroad wouldn't generate much advertising revenue, though. All shows live and die on JNLR figures (people listening live)

I hated them at first, but they won me over eventually, thought they were a great fit in TodayFM. Best of luck to them but I won't be listening to that basket case that is 98fm.

Very true, they strip out the ads and the music for the podcasts so the media benefit would be minimal I suppose. That said, they'll still follow him to 98fm if they keep going. Podcasters would follow the DJ and not the station in my opinion.

Hopefully it will work out. Audiences don't always follow Presenters to new stations but I think a lot of Foley's listeners will make the switch (those who live in Dublin, anyway. )

I posted a while back on another thread that 2FM should offer Foley their Breakfast Show. I still think he would be better suited to a National Radio Breakfast show, but this could work out too. If it doesn't, he will probably be back on Today FM soon enough.

Wow, wasn't expecting that. Best of luck to them, just hope they get KC or someone really good for lunchtime now.
Although I really like KC in the evenings, a change is good all the same, shake things up a bit.

I am gutted, that's the end of Todayfm for me, I only left it on in the mornings through the crap that is D'Arcy's show to wait for Foley, and then I'd leave on Tony until he annoyed me or made me cringe with his awful conversational skills.

It really sucks to put him on a non national show, don't make me listen to Galway Bay :( iRadio it is so!

Also, how in the name of feck is Ray gonna get up that early, will he just come in straight from the pub? :pac:

I like Dempsey and D'Arcy, but always switched over at 2.30 to Rick O'Shea. If Foley's replacement is bad, I don't know what I'll do...

I will not listen to Colm Hayes or granddad Gogan!! I CAN'T!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 456 ✭✭Obrieski

I'm shocked meself. Dempsey tweeted it earlier and I was waiting all afternoon for them to break the news then I had to leave for 5 minutes and when I came back the show was over! Sad to see them go but luckily I can listen to 98fm where I'm from, but it won't be the same I wouldn't be up that early!!

Ah bollocks it's just hit me that my choices(if its not KC), will be the angelus followed by ronan collins, newstalk lunchtime, Colm colm without jim jim, some ****e on 96fm and redfm. Bollocks.

Ray's missus will now be heard by a wider audience than he will will be.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,326 ✭✭✭Jason Todd

My missus has asked me to stop sending her my angry, bitter, incredulous tweets and texts about him leaving.

Melodramatic I know but, my daily routine for the last 5 years if not more is now changing and let's face it, as much as I love KC, everything is a step down from the lads. I was looking forward to Ann coming back, even Adelle, and the return of the Gauntlet...

I think I'm still in shock

Well, they've confirmed that podcasts will continue. So at least that's something. :)

Hurray!! :D That is the only silver lining on this otherwise ****ey fecky news. Boo Dublin :( What about the entire rest of the nation Foley!! And all your loyal listeners from the country! What about us!!

    ****ey fecky anyway :(

As long as the podcasts continue, I'm happy. It won't be the same without Ann though. I doubt there's any chance she'll be moving with them.

Are Today FM and 98 in the same building?

I avoided their lunchtime show for ages because for some reason I took an instant dislike to it back when it started (despite enjoying The Blast!). But for the best part of the last year I slowly but surely grew to love the show and found it the perfect tonic for Ray D'arcy's misery porn peddling. And now just as it's become part of my routine (where possible), they're gone! Typical! To 98fm of all places... I thought that station was supposed to be like 2fm with dire shows and figures to match? Seems odd. Although as most above has said, most likely finding their feet for breakfast before they come back to a real radio station ;)
But I dread to think who might replace them. Maybe they'll revert back to D'arcy being on until 12:45, and follow up with the human equivalent of the colour beige, Phil Cawley?

I doubt it. My guess is KC and Lenny. They took over Foley's night-time slot when he moved to lunchtime iirc so could be the logical choice. I can't think of anyone else on TodayFM that could do it in my opinion.

I doubt they will go back to the old schedule, wouldn't make sense.

Living outside the country (in China) so this thread is the first I've seen of this news. Very disappointed. I've been listening to Ray and JP since the days of my Leaving Cert, many moons ago (2004 to be exact). Does 98fm put podcasts on iTunes?

They've said that if you're a podcast listener you won't notice any change, just will have to subscribe once they start and you'll be sorted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,939 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I was a live listening(most of the time, ray wasn't popular in the building) so I might aswell be living outside the country now as I won't get to listen live now even though I'm up at that time every morning it's the having to be near a wifi connection is the pain.

Dont post much in this thread but I'm gutted to hear them leaving. The only decent afternoon show with some good banter! They'll be sorely missed. :(

JP was bemoaning the fact that he will have to be up at 4.30 in the am for the gig and 98fm is further away than today fm from where he lives.

Don't listen as much as I used to - only on way home in the car at lunch normally (but did hear the "I'll Miss Mumford and Sons" comment and wonder what it meant).

Will be said to see them go, but maybe it's for the best.
