I've posted before about the devastation of woodland in the Kilcolgan/Clarenbridge area but if you take a walk out of the Brothers of Charity, you'll see what passes for Forestry in Coillte terms.

Jesus, they've destroyed part of the woods already and when my wife contacted them about the state of what they'ed done, she got the usual surly fecker who had the attitude of "how dare you question what we do"! He said they were getting rid of the evergreens to give the native saplings a chance but when she told him they'ed made stumps of an oak and beech trees, he came out with the crap that it must have been in a dangerous condition when they chopped down the evergreens around it:rolleyes:

She asked him why there had been no notice of any of this work and he patronisingly told her they put ads in the Connacht Tribune AND the Tuam Herald:eek:. When she complained that feck all people buy either of those papers when the Advertiser/Independant were free, he just came out with another smug answer.

Best of all the Public Meeting about the issue gave locals plenty of opportunity to take issue with the work about to be undertaken......if they went to ATHENRY:eek: for it.....or if they were lucky enough to know about the meeting.

These smug feckers in Coillte seem to be able to ride rough-shod and do anything they like WITHOUT been answerable to anyone!!!

The same can be said of the state they left the woods in Derrydonnell and the amount of hydraulic hose pipe and oil drums and gear oil cannisters left dumped in the woods is beyond belief, not very environmentally friendly.

They've also done the same in the woods close to the Village Nursing home and left it in some state. What I'm worried about is that they have trees marked on the opposite side of the road obviously for more of the same DESTRUCTION!! Fuvking law unto themselves. I've got some photos showing how bad the damage is.

In those photos, most of the areas were lush and full of trees and you can now see the state of the place. You can also clearly see that none of the trees that have been cut were diseased.

Whilst agreeing with you that it looks a mess, it does look like that all of those trees are evergreen trees.
Whilst they may look pretty they are not native and are detrimental to the native varieties of trees and it is the stated aims of Coillte here and the Forestry Commission in the UK to return if possible woodland to a native state and while it may take decades to return the woodland to its former glory it is the best policy for the environment
