I am new to Dublin and need to find the best boarding kennel for my Weimaraner while I take a short break. I have a list from my vet but would like someone's personal experience either good or bad. I am in D4 but will be happy to drive to take him to the right accommodation as I think he would be best suited to an out of town kennel that has space for him to exercise each day.

    Thanks in advance.

    Check out http://www.rivendellkennels.com

Located in Meath but are really really great. Dogs get walked in the large fields beside the premises numerous times a day as well as having the use of outdoor runs. Also have specially built kennels for large dogs!

I'm gonna hijack this thread if that's okay :D I'm looking for boarding kennels in county waterford if anyone has any recommendations? I'm aware of what kennels there are in the county but I cant find reviews for any of them. I'll be gone for about 10 days so I really need a decent place, preferably with plenty of outdoor space for my very active dog to run around and socialise with others. Price doesn't matter so long as he'll be happy there while I'm gone.

    Thanks.

25mins from Newlands cross is a fantastic kennel http://www.kilrottkennels.net/

To be honest the website does not do justice to the place. We leave our fella there all the time and he gets so excited when we pull into the yard.

The dogs are fed a high quality food in the mornings and in the evenings they get a feed of pasta and mince. You can of course leave your own food there too.

There is a paddock at the back of the kennels where the dogs are exercised with a ball and toys and if suitable with another dog for play. The last time we picked Harley up he had been bathed because he had been playing in the paddock with one of Keiths dogs and got covered in muck. Then they get 2 long walks in a group a day.

The kennels are always clean but there is no awful bleachy smell or anything. They are large enough rooms and the runs are sufficient considering the amount of exercise the dog will be getting.

There are raised heated beds and walls between the runs as opposed to fencing so the dogs can't annoy each other during the day.

The only remotely bad thing I can say about the place is that they let harley away with murder! He's too big to be allowed jump up yet he takes a run and dive into Keiths arms every time and Keith lets him :D

Keith and Stella are brilliant and can't do enough for you. They have helped me out so many times when I've been stuck with no booking or I couldn't collect until late in the evening.

They both genuinely seem to love their work and adore the dogs. Harley comes back very tired every time and I would trust them to take him for any length of time.

Honestly I can't say enough for the place.

We use Corncrake kennels in Newtownmountkennedy (its actually almost beside Roundwood Golf Club). It's worth the drive - lots of space, lots of walks- only downside is their opening hours as they close at 4 pm which has often been difficult to work around but it's great for the dog.

Try Wenden Kennels in Rathfarnham. I've been using them for the last 10 years and can heartily recommend them. They'll also collect your dog and deliver him back for a very small extra fee. My three love seeing Jim come to collect them and hop into the van with wagging tails. Best to book early - I book in January for the following Christmas, and also for summer if I'm going away - but for this time of year hopefully they should have vacancies.
