Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Car Service Question

    Guys,

Quick question. Is it better to get your car serviced in you cars dealership(Toyota) which seems to be pretty pricey, or to get it serviced in a local garage, which can be anywhere upto half the price?

Has anyone had experiences with both? I'd tend to say a dealership might do a better job(ie have the parts) but I could be completely wrong?

Find a good mechanic you can trust, ask some friends if you don't
know one. As a rule i've always found dealerships to be more expensive
when it comes to getting things done with your car.

Cheers Muckie, Ya do know one place down the road that seems to be good.

Might give them a try first.

Well ring your local dealer see can you get a price on a service,
then walk in to your local indy garage have a look round, chat with
one of the mechanics, get a feel for the place. If its good and you get
a good price, go for it.

if your car has a warranty, going to your local indy guy might void the warranty. Other than that I'd say go the local guy he'll no dount be much cheaper.

I service my own so it only costs the bits and pieces, which means I can do it more often.

Get a copy of the dealers fixed price menu and see exactly what's covered in each service. As servicing goes, Toyotas aren't that expensive.

Only if they don't use original parts and oils. Otherwise make sure you get a receipt for parts and you wont have any problem

    Thanks guys.

Ya a Corolla perhaps not that expensive, a Celica, after ringing Toyota dealers and getting a price list, pricey enough to say the least.

I will check the local place see what they charge and what is included

Im helping out with a website called Gleemo.ie

Its just started off but you can get a quote for your car service by entering your car details. You deal direct with the mechanics and garages. When they have serviced your car you can leave feedback for others to see.

At the moment though most of the garages and mechanics are based in Dublin.

If you do decide to use it i would appreciate any feedback.
