I had been using a netgear 2247 modem which gave a snr reading of 11. Line attenuation is 54

I have since purchased a DGN2000 and flashed with the DGTEAM. Before any tweaking I got a snr on it of 15.6 which is a huge improvement Line attenuation became 52 (I am around 3.5km from the exchange here)

I have since set the snr tweaking part to 1 to try and reduce it more should reduce it by 5.5db I was thinking.
The stats are now as follows

    System Up Time 00:17:56
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
    WAN PPPoE 1614 1947 0 248 2071 00:17:03
    LAN 10M/100M 1103 1073 0 257 84 00:17:52
    WLAN 11M/54M/270M 12125 9683 0 5888 1383 00:17:31

    ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 12.2 db 14.0 db

I set this yesterday to 1 but I have no speed improvement as of yet what else should I check or do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

your profile could be locked at that speed, some providers use a system whereby when your connection intially syncs with the dslam it will allow the profile to be rate adaptive for around 1 week. They will then lock it down at whatever speed your syncing at. Best bet is to get on to the vodafone dsl team and talk to them about it....but they might not like what you have done since by lowering the snr you could of affected the stability of the connection

Ohh I see any one know if Vodafone do this. I sent Paul on vodafone a pm to see if he can adjust the settings. Nothing I am doing though is illegal in anyway I am just trying to tweak my speed.

I can see through the telnet session that my max speed is 6.5 but wondering how I could achive this
