Just a warning to anyone involved in the UCD community musical. I dont know how you got my number, im not going to pay 12 euro to see a load of feminine lads dance around a stage. Text me again and I will be sending a formal compaint to Martin Butler asking how you got my number and asking him to stop texting me the crap he supports.

Harsh! Surely text messages can't be so upsetting??

I would also like to know how Heat@Tripod got my number. It's all very suspicious.

I remember there was a problem in another college where it turned out that the reps from a few different places happened to be friends and shared information

Text messages have killed more people than cassowaries.

I always give a fake mobile number whenever its required to sign up to a society. I make it 1 digit too short so that some poor chap doesn't have to get constantly berated with offers for **** nights out.

Grimes theres an option on SIS somewhere.. in personal information I think , that says something along the lines of "are you happy to recieve communication through text from UCD " or something.. I always used to get those messages till I clicked no on that this year and , touch wood, havnt got any texts yet this year !!

I tried to find that page on SIS but can't! I've had one or two texts everyday since the start of the week from UCD Ents and the musical one... I just wanted the free pizza in the Fresher's tent, dammit!

Me too! I know it can't be from my Facebook account because I don't have my number on there. Have you ever booked tickets for gigs at the Tripod? I'm thinking it might be Ticketmaster's fault.

    if ya go into

SIS -> Enter registration process -> Personal information -> Personal details and down the bottom of the page it has this

"Use of Text for Communication I am happy to receive text messages from UCD. Yes No info.gif"
I clicked no and havn't had any bother from them this year...

Definitely a joke that any old soc or SU can just get a hold of your number for promo purposes

actually, the rep for tripod:Steven was ents officer a few years ago and still comes around the college a good bit,I wouldn't be surprised that mike pat was letting him use the Ents database to get some promos out.

it IS illegal for them to share their information to other groups you haven't signed up to,but you can just opt out so,no point getting all riled up about it

Thats the problem. Alot of them give no option to Opt-Out which I'm almost sure is illegal in itself.

Another thing is Soc's and Clubs not BCC-ing emails. I must have about 10,000 UCD and Non-UCD email address's in my inbox. SPAM list heaven. People have been sacked for not BCC-ing

If you don't know what BCC is, your a retard. Fact.

I have been collecting society emails for 5 years.Going to sell that list on to a Viagra salesman. Thats my retirement fund.

Kerching! Anyway I cant find the opt out link and there is no info in the texts.
